I have played this in the wild circa 1995/96 and was one I was hoping would be emulated. I only ever saw one though, must have been a failed test.Plays sorta like Ace Emmerdale and those of that ilk, would block the top for ages by killing you on the square below it.Always remember the 'Rhythm is a dancer' sample it played on the gamble. Was in the Rat and Carrot pub in Manchester that was sadly destroyed by the 1996 bomb. Goes mental every now and again. Hope it was you who got it Guitar!

Gotta love the samples used in this era, more from Maygay but these projects had a few decent ones too.

Keeping with the Project theme, did you ever play Haunted house on your travels ? Same tech/cabinet ect.

Doesn't ring a bell to be honest, but I have had a few beers since those days! If I saw a picture I would know for sure.

Make sure the board is clean after battery removal, and that no shorts can be made. Hopefully the board has not been permanently damaged by this frankly shitty battery setup. A lot of Maygay/Projects of this time were affected by this issue. Bet it was a Varta battery to boot!

Can you get some hi res photo's of the board? Also grab yourself a bottle of cheap vinegar next time you are shopping.

You'll need to strip off all the parts that the battery acid (which is actually an alkali, hence the vinegar for neutralisation) has touched. Strip the tracks down with some light sand / emery paper or a fibreglass pencil.
Vinegar everything which looks to have been touched by the battery. Apply vinegar to the board, rub around with an old brush and let it stand for say 15 - 20 mins.

Then give the whole board a good wash with soapy water, rinse with water to get the excess from under any IC's and leave to stand in the sun, or airing cupboard, or dry with a hair dryer until it is completely dry.

Tin the tracks with solder even if they dont look too bad. Also rewire any tracks that lead through the board linking the back with the front. Replace anything with green legs, especially IC's and Transistors (remove these before you vinegar, it'll help get at damaged tracks under IC's.

Also, if you can, send the ROMs to someone to be dumped, just in case you need them in future, you dont find one of those machines every day. And of course it means we can try and emulate it too :D.

Its not a quick process, and I can speak from experience when I say, be patient, it works a lot better that way.

I'll second the vinegar advice, it's awesome, froths up like sherbet - just don't smoke or have naked flames near by, and don't intentionally inhale the fumes it gives off when it froths :D

On my Cluedo board, the acid had damaged the sockets for some of the chips, to the points where the contacts fell off... still haven't gotten around to replacing the sockets but it's not a difficult job, as long as you have a soldering iron.

Definitely look at getting the ROMs dumped as well.

Probably a good idea to mention this over at the MPU Mecca ( The MPU Mecca ) as they have a great bunch of people dedicated to getting older machines running, several people there can dump ROMs for you.

Hope you get it sorted :)

My worst habit used to be smoking and soldering. Once picked up the iron like a cigarette by mistake and burned around the inside edges of the two fingers :)

Now it's either smoke OR solder, not both :)

Had to laugh at that one Ben, once picked up a soldering iron by the wrong end without even thinking. The burn pain served as a reminder forever though lol. Note to thegr8oneisnumber1, hope you can at least take some hi res or even lo res photos and dump the roms, would love to see this machine in action after so long. It even reminds me of a little story where if I won loads of tokens, I knew a guy who drank a beer for 1.20, I would give him that much in tokens for 1.00 cash. Was a good deal for both of us :)

then maybe one day Haunted House might just do the same.
Haunted House as my only unemulated classic left to play again.

Are you talking about the old MPU4 roll top machine with the ghost's chasing the player ? (Empire I think)
If so, I got access to one - I use it as a test rig to test mpu4 boards in!

Or am I barking up the wrong tree!
