Maybe it's just me but installing that OCX file would assume that it's using Microsofts Winsock protocol which is used for FTP and other data transfer applications. Also its has to bind and connect in order to work - this would suggest it's potentially going out or something is coming in just to get it to run.
It would suggest to me that i would have to make my machine effectively "open" in order to run a simulator.
Anyone else share the same concern here or is it the nerd in me trying to get out ?
Yes, thats why I came back to read the rest of the thread to see if people were ok with it beore I registered the ocx. Thanks but I think I'll pass on this one...

for those on xp with the ocx problem that HAS registered the MSWINSCK.ocx try this
[unregister the mswinsck.ocx firs] to do this goto run and type the following
then register it again by typing (assuming you have skillball on desktop)
then goto the skillball folder and double click Platform Emulator then click the button "Note" this will give you £5 of credits to play the machine then click the checkbox "Show Cursor" then make sure you have sonar running to give a big red circle around you cursor then click the button Connect. then go back to your skillball folder and double click Skillballbingo icon to start the program if your screen goes black fullscreen the program should work if you get a samll window open that is black it wont work and you carnt play it unless someone else has way to stop it doing this.
thanks for reading
hope it works

tommyc i know its a bit of a dumb question but are you running as administrator on bot the platformemulator and skillballbingo.exe.
also i found this regarding registering dlls on vista
also for those that may still be having problems with the mswinsck.ocx on winxp i have uploaded a small exe file i created using vb6 that will register and also unregister that file. makesure to put it in the skillballbingo dir for it to work or youll get a file not found error.
also i found this regarding registering dlls on vista
Step 1 Know the path and file names of the files you wish to register.
Step 2 Click "Run" from the Start menu.
Step 3 Type the following into the field provided: regsvr32 "[path]NameOfFile.extension". [path] is the directory where the file is located. For example: C: The extension will be .dll
Step 4 Look for the dialog box that says "DLL Register Server in C:Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/MSI Tools/mergemod.dll succeeded." Click "OK." Your file is successfully registered.
Step 5 Type "[path]NameOfFile.exe" /REGSERVER" to register an executable file.
Step 6 Launch the program manually if it does not launch automatically, in order to check and see if the registration was successful. Remember that without certain files attached to the registry, the program will not run successfully on Windows Vista.
