I have successfully managed to get it working on Windows 7 X64. Not tested in 32 bit edition, or Windows Vista, but I imagine the fix is the same.
I'll spare you the details as to how I managed to find out how to get this working, but my instructions are as follows.
First, register the MSWINSCK.OCX - if running on Vista or Windows 7, make sure to run from an elevated command prompt - e.g. right click and Run as Administrator.
Type in this command:
regsvr32 {path to game}MSWINSCK.OCXReplacing {path to game} with the path to your game - in my case, Z:SkillBallBingoSkillBallBingo (don't ask ).
Then, download these three files (not sure if all three are needed, but can't hurt!):
d3drm.dll
dx7vb.dll
dx8vb.dll
You may be thinking - these are DirectX files! And you'd be correct - Windows Vista and above doesn't include DirectX 7 - God Bless Microsoft and their infinite wisdom.
Place them in the game folder. Then run all these commands from the command prompt that you opened earlier:
regsvr32 {path to game}dx7vb.dll
regsvr32 {path to game}dx8vb.dllAnd there you have it! Run PlatformEmulator.exe and press connect, making sure to put some money in, and then SkillBallBingo.exe - and it should all be fine.
Now, this post also comes with a word of warning about something that I noticed when using Process Monitor - the application attempts to connect to www.007guard.com - which seems to be a distributor of ad-ware from a quick google search. If you have SpyBot S&D with your computer immunized it will instead connect to 127.0.0.1 which is safe - however, if you don't have that I would advise editing your host file (C:WindowsSystem32Driversetchosts) with notepad and adding these lines:
127.0.0.1 www.007guard.com 127.0.0.1 007guard.comThere may be some permission problems when trying to edit the hosts file, but messing about with the settings (making sure to put them back again when you've finished) should allow you to edit the file.
Hope this helps. Worked for me!
Edit: Couldn't install Sonar - will try and find a replacement when I have time - however, it works if you manage to hover over the buttons
EditEdit: Installed Sonar in compatibility mode for Windows XP - works fine. Disables Aero when it is running, but as you'll only have it open during the game thats no problem
