Anyone know where i can get a replacement battery for this board?

I want to remove the old and solder a new one on, however i'm looking for a battery that has the correct fitting in place so it can be soldered directly to the board. Shops and other outlets just sell the battery and i do not ant to place a soldering iron directly on the battery simply because it's not safe!

Don't want to risk being blinded, anyone know where i can get one from?

That maxell battery is the replacement for the maygay/global Eclipse boards

The one you want is the 3.6v one, found one here...

Yep, got two of those of aaamusements @ the mecca, to sort my JPM and Barcrest clubbers out.

Don't want to be rude but are you guys sure?

My battery looks nothing like the green one on ebay? I thought the green batteries were rubbish that leak all over the place?

The one's in my MPU5 machines look like this:

or could be this:

Not sure if it has two pins or three as i have not stripped the board to look, however everywhere i have looked indicates the MPU5 board takes a 3v coincell battery?

I'm confussed, maybe i'll strip it down later to make sure i get the right one.

Yep, they can also take the coincell look alike ones, if I remember right, but what we could do with, is looking at the actual battery area on the board, minus the battery, so we know what options are available.

Most of the time, near all system boards, take a 2.4 or a 3.6v version, of that mempac battery shown in that e-bay link, depending on the boards requirments.

It's the most popular type used anyway.

Ah ok, fair enough i'll have to whip out the board tomorrow and have a good look.

I can just see the coin cell battery but i'm unable to take any readings or identify how many pins it has whilst in the machine.

As someone once said "i'll be back"!

Hey that's great news! I'll get to ordering two of them.

EDIT: You would not happen to know the link to one on maplins website would you? I have spent ten minutes looking on there and i must be blind because i can't find one.

u can just walk in and get 1 over the counter.

to avoid leakage i would recommend soldering the battery away from the board by using extended coated wire to avoid future leakage direct on the pcb

Well so much for Maplins, they not got a clue!

I called them this morning and asked if they had an ML2030 T26 Battery and was told oh yes we have lots of them!

So I drive the 15 miles there to find out they only stock the CR2032 battery! Arghhhhhhhh

I try to explain i wanted an ML2032 with T26 fitting and not the standard CR2032 and was told they only tock the CR2032 and that would be fine. Maybe for around five seconds until it explodes as the CR2032 is no rechargable!

And thats asuming it does not blow up when i try and solder it.

So back to square one again, guess i'm left with ordering one from the link provided earlier.

simple and best thing to do is PM Bazpeeb on here he'll most likely be able to help tracking a battery down or he may even have a spare at work

checked the forum and mpu5 manuals and indicated that it was faulty battery. un soldered that and checked the board but had no continuity to pin, think board was corroded. found a replacement on ebay for £13.50 free p&p and is now working again.

£10 / £15 for a replacement MPU5 is about average these days, and certainly at the mo are not worth repairing unless it's a dead battery.

I'd still keep that board though, as it will be perfect for testing, as any machine released to date I know of, will run without the battery..... it will just moan on boot that it's ram is clear.

This is because this is MPU5, not 6

yeah im well aware of that mate. why did they design it to be soldered in? a lot of hassle just to change a battery.

The batteries normally last for ages to be honest, as long as the machine is in use - it's normally when they are stored and not turned on for ages that you get real problems.

 

As for them being hassle to change - nah, not really. Once you've got the board out it's no more than a 5 minute job.
