Unfortunately MPU6 is not as reliable or as bullet proof as MPU5.
This is why right now you see loads of MPU5 mainboards about as they are as reliable as hell, all from machines that have been scrapped.
I'd be wary of MPU6 simply because I don't think many reel-based games used it - got to be less than 10, surely?! No idea how easy spares will be to come by in the future.
MPU5 has been used in stacks of machines, by so many different manufacturers, over what must be about a 15 year period?! Barcrest, Vivid, Red Gaming, Extreme, BWB, Empire, and no doubt many more. I can't imagine there being a problem with MPU5 spares - and like I said above, replacement batteries really are the simplest 'repair' job you'll ever do. It would be useful to have some soldering experience before attempting it, but 3 legs a good distance apart is pretty easy in the scheme of things.
As for MPU6 being better because it has socketed batteries - that's a new idea. Yes, it probably is better, but I wouldn't say that soldered on batteries have been any real problem over the past 30 years, on machines or other devices, as long as they don't leak
