Got this machine for free from my step brother, I don't know where he got it, all I know is it was not being used. I have no manual or refill key for it and I do know he had 'messed' with it in the past (he's an electronics wizard) He had replaced the on board battery to clear a boot fault, which seems to have worked. The Mars Mech was knackered to start with, accepts no coins, just dumps them back out plus the hinges holding the detector were broken, so he played it in Token mode (just flick the token accept switch to add credits)
It DID work for a bit when I got it home but then 'Mr Tinker with things you know nothing about' here used the test mode to try and see which lamps needed replacing ... bad move ... Machine would not leave the test mode, (and yes I had returned the lil switch back to its normal position)so turned it off at power supply for a couple of minutes. Turned it back on .... bugger ... The diagnostic led's on the main board went through their ritual and then it just looped on 'Reels' and 'Lamps' segments back and forth. The reels make a pulsating 'buzz - buzz' sound and no other activity. They dont spin they just buzz in time to the 'Reels' led segment on the diagnostic led's . I tested the battery with a multimeter and it is fine, it holds its charge and reads a nice 3.4v. I tried the reset switch, but has no effect. I removed the RAM chip to clear the thing but the same thing happens when it is switched back on. Annoying interference sound from speaker and 'buzz - buzz- buzz' on reels. Now the time it takes to reach that point is getting longer and longer, the power on reset led stays on for ages then when it decides to go off, nothing.. just mr buzz and the feeling of despair sink in.
I checked the fuses in the power supply and they are all ok. I really dont know what to do. If it worked again Id spend the money and get a new coin mech if a replacement is available.
Jump up and say STOP if you think I shouldn't scrap this machine but here is the story so far ...
In the process of stripping down for parts - switches removed, cleaned lenses/housings of years of abuse.
Reels un-plugged and sat on floor.
Wiring loom for swtiches/coin mech and token mech sat on a chair.
Pay-out solenoid/Tubes/Diverters/Control circuit sat on another chair.
Rather nice 7-seg led board sat on chair.
All other looms (lights and power plugs) still in situ.

Is it repairable or just not worth it?
Cheers .... :undecided:

Thanks for reply :) Im ok with electronics but this has got me stumped as its more of a 'computer' issue. I just wondered if or what I should be looking at or checking as I have no idea why it will not boot. Asking my step bro is a bit of a sore option, it's complicated.
It may help if I knew what the diagnostic LED's meant.
A sticker underneath says;
Segment - Display 1 - Display2

TOP - DIAGNOSTIC - PERIPH COM
MIDDLE - POWER FAIL - URT 2 RTS
BOTTOM - UNDER VOLTS - URT 2 TX
UPPER RIGHT - I/O ENABLE - URT 2 TX
UPPER LEFT - REEL DRIVE - URT 2 CTS
LOWER RIGHT - LAMPS - BB/PTR
LOWER LEFT - WATCHDOG - URT 2 RX
DEC. POINT - NMI ENABLE - URT 2 DSR

What I get is alternating between I/O Enable, Reel Drive and Watchdog
Is there anyway to bypass this alert system? Whats a 'watchdog'? there is a port next to the 7-segs labelled 'Black Box'
Whats a black box? lol
I understand I/O enable is probably flashing because all the switches and harness are disconnected at the moment. but I think the main problem is this REEL DRIVE fault. it would help me greatly if anyone could 'nudge' me in the right direction lol :) thanks :)
