As a non-smoker, I have to say theres nothing more annoying than when someone lights up a cigarette next to you, especially when your on a fruit machine and you cant really walk away.

Please vote and give your reasons.

I think it should be banned, and I think it will be within the next 3 years.

I´m an ex-smoker (stopped four months ago...), but also when I smoked
I can agree if the government bans smoking in public places... In my country, the Netherlands, they also want to ban the "Dutch Weed" and that is worse..... :cannabis:

I've just come back from EIRE where they have banned smoking in the workplace totally. Listening to the radio on the way back to the airport some legal guys were raising some interesting issues :

If you have a nanny for your child then you can't smoke in your own house as it is your nanny's place of work.

Smoking in pubs is banned as this is where the bartenders work etc...

Personally I'm not a smoker but don't have any problem with smokers. I just go to places where smoking is not allowed or is minimal.

Don't wanna cause offence but i personally am getting sick of being treated like a criminal because i like to relax with a legal drug of choice and getting constantly made to feel like a second class citizen when i light up...an i will tell ya who the worst culprits of the dirty look brigade are......The Ex smokers who would love to take up the habit again but make themselves feel better by being superior to people who haven't given up and don't want to anyway!!!!

I dont think you understand how bad smoke tasts/smells to non-smokers. I mean, if I sat beside you with a can of fart gas and started spaying it in your face and on your cloths, do you think you would find that a little annoying???

Even if I was a smoker, I wounldn't have the nerve to stand beside a non-smoker and poison them with the "toxic" fumes, its just so incredibly selfish.

Well said Irvester! Not to mention they're often carbon monoxide-spreading-CFC-spraying-coal-burning-leather-wearing (eh?) tossers. Sure, ban it in public. Then ban driving, because I'm sure that between the pollution and accidents driving accounts for more death and injury per year anyway. (probably, perhaps) Let the government offer smokers compensation for the damage caused by ever allowing people the freedom of choice, and then lets all get naked and smoke pot in the foyer of the houses of parliament.
I hate pot, it just makes me fall asleep, whereas nicotine perks me right up and makes me feel refreshed and ready for the vigours of the day. Ugly, freckly, ginger-haired fat women, they should be banned in public imo.

Would you like to explain your reason as to why you think this? :?

I cant even begin to discribe how angery it makes me feel when people write silly comments like that, even if it was ment as a joke

Smoking will never be banned completely from public. It is worth too much money to the government if people were forced to quit.

Oh jees, getting political 8O

As an ex smoker, I can see both sides of the arguement. I think that it is a bit unfortunate that smokers are getting victimised left right and centre. The pub culture was always one where you went to drink and smoke (and play the odd fruity). To a non smoker, yes it's nasty, but so is drinking 10 pints of cheap lager and chucking up on the street, or falling over, pi$$ing yourself, fighting or calling everyone your best mate!

What I do think is that smoking in restaurants is not a good thing. The idea of a non smoking section is a farce. The last thing I want is to breathe in someone's fag smoke whilst I'm tucking into a nice jucy T Bone (BSE guidelines permitting  !)

However, despite the government making a killing from fag tax, I think it's inevitable that it will eventually be banned in public places. After all it wasn't long ago that you could smoke at your desk at work - imagine that now!! Give it another couple of years and we'll all be healthy, fit and running the marathon!

i am a chef in a busy restaurant i think smoking should be allowed in pubs in desginated places to give smokers a choice and not to be allowed in restaurants at a dining table only at a bar

i am a non smoker

Oooohh - such a topic of fierce debate.

Feel i must stand up for the smokers here.

Yup its bad, yup it does u no good - but its a personal choice and the ammount of tax on my fags is paying for my bed in a cancer ward one day.

Drinking is far more an anti social and debilatating addiction - but thats seen as just a larf.

But answer these...

How much domestic violence occurs because of smoking...
How many people are killed by smoking drivers...
How many fights occur in city centres because someones had one too many fags...

I think you'll find its not many compared to the demon drink... but thats considered 'sociable'

I am a smoker, a drinker and a gambler (blimey not much going for me then) but i will never smoke around kids, people who don't like my smoking and obviously areas where its not permitted. And i think you'll find thats the typical attitude of most smokers.

Everything in moderation and live and let live.

Anyway back to something much more important the fruitys :)

Why dont you just move away when someone lights a fag up then its not affecting you beacuse you not near it.

Smoking in restaurants is not nice and i personally will leave a restaurant to have a cigarette..i have only smoked in my garden now for over 5 years cos the missus gave up and banned me from smokin in the house hoping that standing in the cold rainy garden would stop me....quite the opposite has happened..when she starts naggin i simply get up and trot to the garden shed with me Embassy no.1 and spend the next 10 minutes or so relaxing with a ciggie and laughin at how wound up she must be getting....LOL

On a serious note tho my house always smells very pleasant and i haven't had to paint any ceilings for the last 5 years !!

I still don't agree with no smokin in pubs tho..its one of the last truly English traditions and one by one we are losing every one of em!!
