Hot on the heals of Monopoly60v8's post on smoking (which is still burning - no pun intended ), what are your thoughts on the UK's drinking rules;
Are we more likely to have a better and calmer society if town/city centre pubs were open much past 11:00pm or would we be further breeding a nation of complete piss heads?
My view is that the 11:00pm end causes too many people on the streets at the same time (which is bad), and in my experience, you kneck as many pints as you can down your throat before you get kicked out of the pub (and then the fights happen :-( ).
Of course you can go to a club, but at my age (34 this April - aghhh) I'm trying to avoid this as I seem to be turning into my old man - "I can't hear myself think in here - look at the state of her, she should put some clothes on, she'll catch herself a cold etc....)
Thoughts?!?

well i work in pubs as a karaoke host.i see fights come and go all night long so i think its a bad idea.but then you do get the people who use the pub every night and are all nice people so for them i say yes.if only the pubs could get rid of all the trouble makers then i think it could work.and if thay do go past 11pm kick out the ones who thay dont remember
thanks flyer

I personally think the drinking laws are very outdated and only serve to cause aggravation at being chucked out at 11:20!!!

I live and work in a pub, and I dont want to work later, and I dont want to be kept awake every night. Call me selfish but I need my kip!
I apologise for my awful username and previous posts from 13 years ago. I was a misguided chav.

Remember when the all day drinking laws were about to be introduced?....all the do-gooders said there will be drunks everywhere?--well I live in a lively town and I haven't seen them...whereas at 2:30 or whatever it was they closed you could guarantee seeing them...
You only have to be in town now at night upto 11:30 the towns kicking--then from 11:30-02:00 it's a ghost town, then the clubs shut and at 02:10 the fights at the taxi rank start--because everyone is out at the same time.
I admit if you are in the trade or live above somewhere it must be a bummer, but then the late night pubs in my town have a noise order applied--play ball or it's revoked. It must generate more jobs as-has the all day rule?...surely this can only be a good thing?

24 Hour pubs should be mandatory...in Eire the "real pubs" never close, no matter what it says on the door. There are a few pubs around here that have "afters" for regular customers and only close when the last patron has crawled out the door, usually me.

I think it should be ok, but as you'll have to kick out the Burberry and Von Dutch brigate about 10pm

you think at my age 35 that you can drink till any timeHot on the heals of Monopoly60v8's post on smoking (which is still burning - no pun intended ), what are your thoughts on the UK's drinking rules;
