Obviously everyone has heard the news about the terrible tragedy in Haiti..all them people being killed.
Great shame but part of life i spose..i was doing some research on the internet about earthquakes..and came across a site that records earthquakes in the last 30 days.
IRIS Seismic Monitor - 30 Recent Earthquakes kinda scary that there is that many earthquakes over the world every day..and thats not including the ones below mag 4.0 which there are plenty more of.
In a kinda wierd way..id love to experience one just to see what it feels like..appaerently there has been about 3 or 4 'earthquakes' or tremors here since ive been born..probably mag 2.0 or below but ive slept through them all.

Yeah quite by coincidence I installed the firefox quake plug-in yesterday. Came home to find 30+ earthquakes and had to google it to find out if its normal. Which its not.
Although lots of smaller quakes must be better than 1 or 2 big ones. If a certain amount of energy has to be dissapated, then as gently as possible is preferable.

Well I crapped myself at this one. Still in bed that morning, awake at the time. Figured it must have been an earthquake. Quite scary at the time really as you realise there is nothing you can do about it.

Where you came from, is gone.
Where you thought you were going, was never there.
And where you're at right now, aint no good, unless you can get away from it.

I experienced one not all that long back, when I was shagging the ex.
She panicked and though the LPG bottle in the heater in the front room was gonna bang lol

i think we are very lucky not to have experienced anything like the big ones you get elsewhere in the world - i dont think the UK could cope with anything like that

There was a big one in turky when i was there. It was a fair distance from where i was staying but i felt it and it was nothing like what i have felt in the uk. The sound was like a train outside the window and it was wierd. I know that a few people died in it but it wasn't that bad where i was in gumbet.

I dunno what the big fuss is in Haiti. After 30 aftershocks I can't find my home either.

The UK would not cope AFAIK. The buildings are not built with 7 plus quakes in mind. We have had a couple of 5s though, but remember the richter scale is exponential, as in it's 5 isn't a 4 plus 1, 5 is a 4 x 10. So that 7 in Turkey was 100 times stronger than what we get here maximum.
My cousins were over here for a holiday when the quake struck, Uncle was still there though, was very lucky the house didn't fall down, mind you it's quake proof...but still, none of his friends houses fell down or anything either and they were not built that well.
Had a holiday the next year when we went down to this "Earthquake House" just down the hill which we believed was knocked down by the quake, but turns out it was built there and knocked down for no planning permission
