Hello everyone.
I'm an absolute beginner with Fruit Machine Emulation. I was referred here by the Visual Pinball forums. I know about FME because my Mum had some FME on her computer. She warned me it was complicated, and it really looks it. What are the recommended first steps for an absolute beginner?

welcome
it isnt that hard once you know what to do
most important thing
if your on a laptop & arent able to use the "uncheck display mode this device may not support" you can only play layouts that are either classics (no artwork) or 1024 DXs
if your on a PC your more than likely able to set your resoloution upto 1600 x 1200 so your covered for all layouts
now for emulators - http://www.fruit-emu...ry/1-emulators/
all can be found there, you'll mainly need just mfme but bfmulator & jpemu will have there uses
now the layouts
http://www.fruit-emu.../28-using-mfme/ - quick tutorial on using MFME 1/2/3/3.2
note: layouts that are runnable in MFME 3.2 can be rescaled so laptop users can play 1600s or 1280s but only if they work in MFME 3.2
now we have a more organized download libary you can find machines that can be ran in mfme 1/2/3/3.2 in here - http://www.fruit-emu...ory/37-mfme-11/ and in here - http://www.fruit-emu...y/18-mfme-2030/
if you want to run some of the SP.Ace machines you need to use mfme 2.1 or 3.1 layouts - http://www.fruit-emu...y/34-mfme-2131/
now for more modern machines you'll need mfme 9.4 & 10.1
10.1 & 9.4 layouts wont work in 1/2/3 but 1/2/3 layouts will work in mfme 9.4/10.1 (i dont think the SP.Ace machines do)
lyaouts for mfme 9.4/10.1 - http://www.fruit-emu...ory/42-mfme-9x/
now, unlike 3.2 mfme 9.4/10.1 cant rescale layouts so your forced to use classics & dxs if your resoloution cant go above 1280
hope this helps
oh and a final note, you may say my screen resoloution is 1280 x 800 so why cant i see the reels/buttons on a 1280 layout
well mfme works on a 4:3 ratio and not 16:9
1280 layouts are designed at 1280 x 1024 and not 1280 x 800
edit: curse you ady, ive spent a good while typing this up
also some of the links in the guides are dead so thats why i didnt refer to them

I clicked on this thread believing that it would be all about a very good film and an even better theme song by David Bowie. My disappointment was palpable.

OK. I downloaded ZIPs of Two tables, Cops 'N' Robbers and Sonic The Hedgehog. Now, where do I put all the files within the ZIPs?
