Go into config panal and check the Data Prom tick box, then reset. That should stop it.
The data port is the rs232 plug on the board. A handheld device can be plugged into it for reading off debug data as well as detailed money in/out registers amongst other things.
Some ROMs must detect the dataport or they wont boot. I think MFME can emulate it enough to make it work. Not 100% sure. But if it can, that's the box you tick.

AS PER GUITAR -
the datapak or data comm is a device to capture readings. the way that it works itself will also play a part in the state of the machine. once the cash door is open, the data comm is aware and puts itself in limbo untill a key type plug is inserted into the unit - notifying the data pack that personel are present and the cash draw has not been opened without authorisation.
if this is the cash, the datapak/comm will go into this limbo state and cause the mainboard to fail with the data comm message. the machine will not come out of this state untill either the data comm is removed or the key plug is inserted and the data comm is up and running - allowing the startup of the machine to finish
what a mouthfull

More than likely just a different romset used. For each machine there are probably 15 - 20 rom combinations. with arcade proms, single site, datapack, personalised roms like gala bingo site roms, and various other rom options, not to mention percentage (fixed, variable, variable with key only) and JP/Stake.
Not all machines have datapack enabled.

Yeah. Best to avoid any data roms on the emulator. Unless they're Barcrest MPU4 roms you won't get very far.
Here's a rundown of what the letters after the rom names mean. Should help when choosing which roms to load on the emulator.
AD = (Gala+Data)
B = (Bingo)
BD = (Bingo+Data)
D = (Datapak)
DK = (Data+Arcade)
DY = (Data+Key)
K = (Arcade)
S = (Standard)
Y = (%Key)

hi it sound to me like you have data software in your machine, which means the machine will go into a 'DP' (dataport) alarm if you don't have a data capture device fitted.
if not..
could just be an error on the MPU, ensure you have -12V coming from the Power Supply to the MPU.
minus 12V only runs the dataport, so would be worth checking out..
hope this helps.
