So the last couple of weeks I have hit the Norfolk coast for a few gambling trips and alas most ofthe decent machines have disappeared.

The arcade which had an Impact Roller Coaster and Big Banker 3 months ago has replaced with a Battle Axe (with half the lamps blown) and a Pie Factory.

Yesterday I found 2 decent older machines and that was it. A Monte Carlo or Bust video game, and a Andy's Great Escape. The rest is now all Party Time,Bullion Bars, Golden X, Monopoly, and the dreaded DOND.

Why is it that all the modern machines pay out in streaks? I dont want to risk £90 is a £5JP just to see a JP or top box feature.

It has left me feeling a bit down, I went out for a nice gamble and couldnt be bothered to play once I got there.

So out of interest, how many members think that the decent machines are all but gone, and how many of you think that what we have now is still pretty good and Im just getting old and dont like change?

My vote went to the 90's machines, and i doubt my opinion will ever change.Your right about all the best machine being filtered out and replaced with all the shit like dond etc etc. There is still pl;aces what cater for the classic machine lover, theres a couple of places in north wales which still have loads of classics in from the 90's and 80's,but i'd rather have an arcade closer to me then i wouldn't go and play the shite i do when o get the urge and loose a oner in less than 15 minutes :policeman:

I voted for the 90's (early to mid) although late 80's was a cracking era for machines too.

As im 25 its gotta be the 90s 4 me, machines such as Hyper Viper, Andy Capp, Popeye, Hot Dogs, Roller Coaster, etc. You get my drift lol, Im guess im lucky as my local has a classic section also only a 45 min drive from Dave's arcade. ( Mr P's )

I Chose 2000's because i've only been 'officaly' able to play them since 2005... by the sounds of it i've missed out on some good machines from the past decades.

deffo early 80's for me, up till mid 90's! The most i ever took out back in the 90's before the £10 jackpots came in force was...
stuck a tenner in an ace's grand national 20p £6 token jackpot.... £3+encloser paid out 10 x £6's and 9 x £3's =£90 in ONE go!

bfm's surprise surprize, 20p £8 token jackpot (i think it's very rare as i never seen another £8 version)
Anyway played this machine and got the streak... 5 x £8 jackpots.. then got a £4 repeater wait for it.... REPEATED 20 fxxking times! emptied the bastaxd! was in an arcade at haven camp, quicksilvers or cracker jacks!
loved the old days!

Happy days! unlike the modern crap of todays's fruit machines......

90's for me as I am growing up in the 00's most arcades use 90's machines because this was the era they really boomed, who can forget the mid 90s barcrest MPU4s? Andy Capp, Duty Free and all the ONLY decent empires that came out? Eureka, Crossfire and what about the JPMs? Roller Coaster, Money Talks? I could go on forever about MDM, Astra, BWB, JPM but there is too many to list so the 90's deffinatly gets my vote!

The 80's for Design, but the 90's for the bond between technology and design! The machines we know today were born from the 90's

Like cars, Cars from the 80's are now classics but cars from the 90's are classics, with todays technology which makes them special.

Yep, I cant wait to go down for a visit to Dave's. Possibly the last great arcade left, you fancy putting an arcade on the norfolk coast Dave?

Definitely the 1980s, even though I voted for the 90s by mistake!

Project and sp.Ace techs coming out was a breath of fresh air for the fruit machine industry! :)

My era was late 80's to 1995. I played fruities since double up deluxe days but the late 80's was where it was at for me. All the projects and decent lo-tech barcrests.... Cloudies, Blue Moon etc, 777 heaven and all its spin offs.. Then came the Ace Coin band aid machines.... Play it Again, Twilight, Open the Box... Some very special times for me and the mates I used to knock about with.... Even though I probably lost an obscene amount of money back then, gambling back then was more fun.. Nowadays with the jackpots so high now in the 18 there is a lot more money to be lost a lot faster....

I voted the eighties as my era was exactly that period, starting with Nudges Unlimited, the first MPU3 machine ever, and finishing about 1989 when I finally kicked the addiction.

I think it wasd the move away from the original MPU3/4 that actually caused my enjoyment to diminish. It then seemed every arcade in Cheltenham was packed with OXO's.

The 1980's for sure. BWB Ace Chase and its numerous clones were my favourite series of machine of all time - thumb bleeding goodness bashing your way up to a jackpot of a whopping £1.50. JPM's best years - Nugde Bonanza and Copper Run arguably their best ever creations. PCP Blue Streak and Fruit Cracker, oh and Test Pilot. I just loved the 1980's!

Now all we have is monotonous all or nothing bullshit from two manufacturers who have a duopoly and have got way too lazy. They will ruin the AWP. And judging from what we have now, good riddance.

I went to skegness on Sunday just gone, I was shocked at the amount of 10p £5jp DOND's. The pair that had a very nice selection of older machines at the very back has now ditched them for racing games and ticket games and on the main floor there was at least 18 dond machines scattered all over. It was the same in the over 18's bit too. 60% was dond shite and party time/monopoly/golden game. I think that the machine of the past are now in the past and the new era of fruit machines is upon us. It's very sad but thats the way it is and we can't do anything about it except play them on our computers.

I voted for the 90's as this was when I started to play the machines more and have to admit that the new £10 all cash was what started the big leap to what we have now £70 jp's it's just crazy to think you might have to spend £400 + to get a JP from a £70 jp machine with the chance of no repeats.

I totally agree. Thankyou to the creator of the emulator (I will not enter the politics of who stole code from where) and due to their efforts we can recreate part of our younger days so innocently on a computer. And lament the day Barcrest and BFM morphed into a single company who are simply lazy.

I played a Barcrest in Filey the other week. Backing from start, I ploughed nearly £400 in for a flat £70JP. The last time I will play an AWP, on my life.

The AWP is dead. Long live the AWP.

Best machines were in the 90's IMO (going on the Project Coin High Techs & JPM Fairgrounds etc) Also the video (think BWB) like Monte Carlo or Bust etc. Very early 90's (up to 94 - 95). 80's overall just for the depth of machines. 70's were good but not as good as 80's.

Any machine 2000 onward does not compare to the old machines in playability (maybe a few low techs from Project or Electrocoin only oh and Project Coins Empire which was a great machine, BGT Supermoney maybe as well, and a few of the Crazy Keys / Fruits only).

EDIT: Read my post back to myself and what a ramble (gezz). Vote went to 90's!!!
