Hello, I'm very new.
Very N00bish and munterlike, not a gambler or a FM fan of the past,
However, I do likes me IT.
And I notice that when comparing this with MAME the motivational drive is very different.
MAME users want to have the cabinets, the feeling of the good old days. FME want to play lots of games but don't seem as interested in the hardware (As in recreating the hardware, but throw loads of effort into accurately emulating the hardware perfectly)
So, this topic is just to say, I learnt about MFME by chance, didn't think it was out there so never looked.
But last night, I set up a dual 19" monitor set up (With gaffa tape)nicked some momentary switches from old pc's at work (Smashed an old ps2 keyb) and figured out the matrix combos for C, A, 1,2,3 and {SPACE} and built a (naff) cabinet in about 3 hours.
Its 1000 times more fun than with a keyboard, and with the 2X 1280 monitors running dualview, its pretty much full size, HQ for a 1600 WDX.
So it's a front room fruity.
Celeb looks great, but I need more HQ 1600 WDX's to really sort it. (like I said, I'm new so need to scout about for the gems)
Next is an order to Happs and proper switches + bit of MDF for a proper cab, can be done in a day.
So why is there no following here for these, like there is for mame.
Anyone know the perfect setup for a 1600 layout? I'm guessing about 19" wide running portrait for the top half and 17" standard for the bottom. (TFT)
I got pics which wowed the lads at work today, but it's so rubbish I'll have a cool one this time next week.

Looking forward to some pictures.
I've often thought it would be a good idea to get some of these machines into a cabinet but it's not something I have any experience in. I'd see them working similar to the new 'Juice' machines you see about albeit with buttons rather than a touch screen.

Yeah I agree, I trashed a million Monitors just getting the same effect! lol
The Emulations are created for the Mr Average, that being 99.9% of users..but!!!
With having some scans I have created a layout for myself, I used that at work for a training program (I had to talk about a hobby) and that was screened onto a wall via equipment that I guess cost in excess of 4k...not too sure we can really afford that lol.
It was around 200mb I believe...
And it looked damn good 'life sized' (a little bigger than you suggest) even if I say so myself

Oh yeah, and why oh why are we not using Direct X to scale to fullscreen?
I know it gets the N00B!!!! response, and I know why you are locked to resolutions,
BUT DX can scale nicely from any res with filters.
So,
Fullscreen DX portrait implementation please clever blokes who make the EMU.

Phew, didn't ever think the pic was gonna upload / work.
Stupid £15 a month broadband knobs have let me down.
Well, there it is, looks like one. Plays like one.
(Saved £25 today by playing this machine as it's a robbing ****)
Told you it was naff. But watch this space, because I'm ace and I can do anything.

Its a feature that should be in project amber if it ever gets finished.
That's why the editor previously handled top and bottom glass seperately so you can do 1 glass 1 screen.

Hmm, must look into that.
I just want to create a plain and simple schematic for 1600.
ie: Righto chaps, if you want this as a home entertainment machine then do this:
Get a plonky old machine, an Athlon 2800 is fine.
Get a dual output card (radeon 9800 pro DVI + VGA)
Some ram + HDD
2X monitors
I reckon on 19" Wide set as portrait and 17" standard
Stick one on top of the other, bottom at a good view angle. (25-30 degrees)
Smash up an old keyboard and solder wire to the following points - blah blah
Attach switches to the wires
Stick them to the bottom screen
now download MFME 9.4 and the following ROMS - blah blah
Now run my VBS script
Tada, you have a Front room fruity.
Oh yeah, go to B&Q and get some thin 4 ply and download this template and jigsaw it out
Screw it all together
Print off these pics of Formica laminate and graphics on photo paper (10 sheets required)
Fablon it all on
Put in a multi-gang adapter for 3X 240 v sockets, 2Xmonitors and 1xPC
run the multigang out the back of the cab and screw the pc Mobo to the wood.
Good to go.
Now you have a fully fledged fruit machine in your house, aswell as the biggest IPOD known to man and an internet machine etc etc.
Yep, it would make a brilliant jukebox too.
Any feedback?

Look pretty cool, mate. I remember some chap doing a similar thing with the Pinballs.
Most of the 1600x1200 layouts were done by yours truly. Here's a list of all the layouts I've done: http://www.fruit-emu...wnloads&mid=301

Did you create "I'm a celebrity" ?
Because that format is almost perfect.
Had to gaffa tape the top of the screen running 640x480 to eliminate the besel area but aside, nice clear graphics.
I'm after 1600 layouts to restest my current setup, once I know the perfect combo, I'll post full build it yourself schemas.
Don't flatter me sir,
I knocked the box up in three hours or less. It plays well, but that is down to the software engineers like yourself, not me.
I work away from home by 200 miles, so can't build it right till I get at my toolbox / garage which is guarded by the dragon (Missus)
No play while wolfie is away.
This time next week I'll have a proper cab to show y'all.
Mon ami, I will check your layouts.
I wont ask for nowt, as I'm new, haven't actually had chance yet to check for roms!
only got Addams, Celeb and ***** Indiana Jones ***** (Old fav, wish so hard this was 1600)

Ha, Ploggy.
Didn't realise it was you. Bit of a celeb yourself mate, from what I've read.
Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you too, mate.
Me, and a chap called Baz did IAC. Me with the 1600 size layout, and Baz did the 1280 size. There's a 1600 DX for Indy, by the way. Not one of mine this time though. Link is here: http://www.fruit-emu...-jones-1600-dx/

Is it still possible to do 1 glass, 1 screen?

Sorry all, What a bonehead question that was.
I blame the Stella.
What I meant to say was, I've built a great cab now with proper buttons, cooling and it scales 1600 perfectly by presetting the res.
I really want Indy 1600 more than air, but can't yet get it to work.
I'll figure it out soon, (Still poggling at the mo with graphic design)
Also very excited to find out if there is a 1600 WDX Addams.....
I will post a pic when it is "Asthetically pleasing with photocab graphics on"
(Would be a shame to do it now because it is a horrible brown)
I don't get issues with any other 1600 DX,
Ploggy mate,
Can I please have a tiny clue, am I using the wrong emu, need to load the layout seperately, combine the rom from the 1280 dx and the JPM of the other?
No worries if you are busy, I've got things to be getting on with, want it finished by thursday so I can take it back to Blackpool and let the lads loose on it.
It's much better in a cabinet with Happs cherry buttons than on a PC.
Watch this space.
"Told you it'd be alright"
lol

Got Indy 1600 working, i didn't realise it needed a seperate emu. I've been too busy with the cabinet to play with any software.
I'm going to start a new thread because my cab uses a 22" samsung portrait and not 2 displays.
It is pretty cool though. look out for the new thread. You lazy lot can make one of these in 8 hours provided you have a grasp of basic ipac encoding, wiring and standard motor function.
I've got me a f***ing wicked jukebox and also a total party machine now, ahhh yeah.
Thats because I'm ace though.

You will most probably need to use the jpm emu, you will need to install it then search the folder directory where the roms are for indy. hope that helps

what a fantastic project.
assume for 1 second this was a finished product - would it sell ??? think about it.

You would find it hard to get the top glass on top screen and bottom glass on bottom screen due to the fact that the top glass is much taller than the bottom, it would look very strange with a very stretched bottom and a shrunk top.

Oh it wouldn't be stretched, hence the widescreen portrait monitor on top and standard aspect below. You would find it hard to get the top glass on top screen and bottom glass on bottom screen due to the fact that the top glass is much taller than the bottom, it would look very strange with a very stretched bottom and a shrunk top.
Then you bezel off the area left at the top.
Anyhow, I have finished it completely aside from the cabinet art.
Showed it to my family this weekend and all my mates played on it. It was great, few beers and a few pops at different machines.
Uses an IPAC keyboard encoder so I have ZERO button issues.
Very very lots of funniness.
Cab art is being done tonight, pictures will be uploaded at the weekend.

Looks really good.
Another option is to buy an old non-working machine off e-bay for peanuts and use that cabinet then you will have "proper" buttons.
I realise a monitor or 2 won't fit exactly, but would easier to "shield off" the gaps around the monitor than build a cabinet from scratch for those not proficient at DIY?
