I don't know why this is, but a lot of the classic layouts I play have crackly sound. I'm talking things like Silver Shadow, Jackpot Jump or any machines that have the Yamaha sounds.
I've tried different emulators, and this PC is unchanged in terms of sound software and that...It did have a hard disk replacement a LONG time back but apart from that it's been fine. I used to have fine sounding layouts, but now it's really ruined.
Can anyone offer advice?
Thanks all!

When you find out...let me know..
I think its summat to do with the chipset rev of the motherboard and what kind of onboard sound you have.
With mine i have a Nvidia nforce4 chipset and Realtek AC97 onboard sound..when im on XP i get the choice of using the Nvidia audio codecs (which makes the sound fine on the emu's) or the Realtek which fks it up.
But with Windows7 the Nvidia driver is not compatible...so i need to stick with the Realtek AC-97 ones..so im between a rock and a hard place sometimes..do i stick with XP just for the emu's or go Win7 which is 10 times better IMO.
Hopefully when i get my new PC it will sort this problem out...well thats if Dell ever get the finger oot.

Yeah same problem here with my pc which is on vista, whenever i want to play the classics i have to unplug everything and get my xp tower out to play them, this isn't ideal though as it cuts out whenever it feels like it.Does no'one else find that mpu4 and m1a ru shit slow and send the cpu usage upto 100% using vista winds me right up,WINDOWS VISTA IS POOOOOO

This is one of the reasons why I actually downgraded my computer from Windows 7 to XP!
Vista and Windows 7 sounds are truly awful, not only on the Yamaha sounds on MFME, but also whilst playing my music in general, plus a lot of the games I played aren't compatible to run in Vista and Windows 7 - ie MS Train Simulator for one (even though it says it is, it crashes more often than not) and this is truly the only other game I play apart from MFME - so both things I love cannot play properly on the newer operating systems.
So off to the shop I went, brought Windows XP, altered the bios settings in my new Acer computer (well my nephew did actually ) and installed Windows XP onto my new computer, along with the drivers that Acer supplied for Windows XP for my computer, and haven't regretted a thing once! Downgrade - it's the best way!
By the way, I also run Linux 2010 OS on a partition, and if you use a program installed via the Packages programs, called WINE, you can actually play MFME on Linux too! It plays great as well!

Any machine, any tech on any emu, (running on VISTA) where the Motherboard creates its OWN sounds, dont work very well on Vista, I tried ploggys Super Streak Yesterday and was exactly the same, as usual Vista fails to work properly again!

Cheers for your information you all gave me, however I'm running XP! I forgot to mention that, and it seems like most peoples XP run the sounds nicely...So why not mine? I really should get some knowledge of my soundcard etc!
PS My Windows 7 Laptop runs all sounds OK apart from these classics, si I guess we're in the same boat there.

Have you updated to the newest drivers? If you're on XP, it normally does the trick. Have a look here: http://www.realtek.c...3&GetDown=false
