Hi Guys,
Can anyone give me some advice please? I recently aquired a Barcrest Cash Attack in a Horizon Cabinet (i think is a 2007 model) free of charge as it was being thrown into a skip to be scrapped. Originally i was going to strip and keep for spares but have thought now i will have a mess around with it to see if i can fix it. Basically i plugged the mains lead in and it screams at me "hey check it out" and the alpha display flash's alarm 52-36 then NO CHARACTERISER and then NO ID CHIP can anyone explain what these notices mean im under the impression that the game program chip as gone faulty or is blank. if this is the case does anyone have a chip for sale or can anyone point me in the right direction to obtain one. The machine runs on the MPU5 and i have attached a couple of pics in case it helps.
Thanks to all in advance for any advice given.
Kind regards Mick.

If you take the program card apart you will notice some eproms, there should also be a pic/boot chip, this fault is saying it cant fit the pic/boot chip.
Have you got another mpu5 machine that you could swap the pic/boot chip with, they will need to be the same kinda age too.

Hi Starleisure,If you take the program card apart you will notice some eproms, there should also be a pic/boot chip, this fault is saying it cant fit the pic/boot chip.

Thank you for your help with this problem, i am presuming that the program card is the part i have taken pictures of and attached on here? please accept my appologies if i seem a bit thick i am fairly familiar with fruit machines but not sure of the correct names for some parts. I have taken what i think is the program card appart (please see attached pic) and can only see 1 eprom please correct me if i am wrong, i presume the eprom is the black chip in the pic with the sticker on saying RTC CATK if this is correct i have checked it is pushed in correctly tried it again and still saying the same message. I have got 2 other MPU5 machines Vamp it up and Austin Powers both being older machines, i have tried the cash attack program card in the vamp it up machine and got the same messages, i have also tried the vamp it up program card in the cash attack and with bottom cash door open it says initialising, spins reels, then continues through to read meters with start button flashing taking you into menu's but with cash door closed it gives message initialising no reels spin then alarm 17-83 pnd opto blocked then tamper which does'nt concern me because the hopper wires have been cut through which if i can get machine running should be an easy fix, thus making me think the game eprom in the pic with sticker on as gone faulty. Please continue to help me with this problem as without you guys i would be stuck and end up scrapping what looks like a great machine. Thx again to all. Kind regards Mick.

The game program is stored on the surface mount chip's with the other white labels (not the rtc chip)
It might just need reprogramming via the flash card socket - but your gonna need the files and a cf card to do that - might be worth contacting B'crest with that photo and see what they say,
Or have you tried Stu - he gets the odd crest program now and again ;-)

Sorry ive not been on here for a bit as ive been quite busy - im getting close to 100 machines in per month to sell so good but hard times, lol.
Im guessing you must have purchased a set of prog chips at some point from me - i try to sell them on cheap if i end up scrapping a really bad cab.
Best wishes
Stu.

Just come across this searching for the mpu5 flash cards, that pic CHARACTERISER chip looks the wrong way round to me, its difficult to see in the pic but it looks wrong way round. If it is it will most likely be blown as pic chips don't like being put in wrong way round, this then blows up the program card as well!. so at the very least it will be a repair on the program card and a new pic chip will be required.
(I know this is a old thread but might be usefull for reference as no cure has been posted in years)
