I just started to use the netgear WNR2000 again so other people in the house can use my WiFi. They can connect to it no problem with the wep key but when I try and connect to the WiFi via any mobile device eg Iphone, Nokia x6 and a Ipod touch they wont work. When I put the wep key in it accepts it and shows the tick next to the connection but when trying to use the connection it wont use it on the Iphone 4 it just uses the orange 3.5G and on the ipod it just refuses to load any web pages. It did connect for a few minutes on the iphone 4 but after swopping the apps it went off.

I have put a picture up with what I see on my Iphone screen.

Any help would be great thanks.

2 things I can suggest.

If your only using WEP security thats the weakest of them all use the highest WPA2-PSK if possible, as been told iPhone4 likes that the best.

Also if a lot of people are using the same channel in your area, that can cause intermittent connection problems, try and use a channel not many people are using. eg Ch1, Ch6, instead of the I think default Ch11.

Not saying it will sort your issue but has worked for me in the past.

Well just tried to buy a game and it failed on the download. Just did a speed test and im connfused by the results, the upload is 3 x's faster than the download. See picture

I'm not sure what speed the Iphone 4 can go up to on downloads but the upload speed looks good.

It'd be interesting to see what results you get on speedtest from a non wireless connected device (just to see if it is the wireless that is the issue or the actual internet connection part of the router itself).

I'd also check the channel (as previously mentioned). If it's on "auto" or manually set to 1 try changing it to 9 and see if things improve. I'd also go for WPA as a test (over wep which is largely pointless for security) and wpa-2 (which puts more load on the router so thus can cause issues if bandwidth demand is high). If the router asks, use wpa-tkip rather than wpa-aes (or some option for both) as some devices also have issues with AES as an option.

Good luck!

RH mate is the modem/router by anychance the one you use to get from virgin media ???

If it is mate they are useless...

I had one from them and well they are crap for the wireless and if you download loads like me ( i do about 200 - 500 gigs downloading a month ) you have to reset them every couple of days or the speed gets slower and slower ...

i now use one of the newer modem from virgin and its much much better perfect speeds but soon im going to have the virgin hub when i get the 100meg net from them :D
