buy a usb keyboard and flip the lappy on its side haha!! Thats what i use to do, you need to obv rotate the screen. then uoi will fit the 1280's on it.

This is a concern of mine as well

The majority of PCs sold these days are laptops, layouts would get lot more use if were more laptop friendly :D

Maybe the next update might have the auto scale for the new releases.

This arguement has been aired many times reguarding screen resolutions. Some designers preffer to work at a 1280x1024 res,me included. As on 3 quaters of the machines it's impossible to read the lamps when the dx is made at 1024x768 res.I have made quite a few 1024's but tbh they aint that good as they just don't look right at that res, unless theres no tiny lamps on em.An auto rescale for the newer machines is a good idea though especially when people start making 36000x24000 res layouts ;)

ive had a sililar argumet for years concerning layouts over 1280x1024. precious space lost on the top of a cabinet that serves no purpose at all. if you look at how many users have lcd flat screens and then look at the maximim resolution, anthing over 1024 up to down is pointless. personally i`d like to crop the top off of any layout over the coin slot. this would give ample room for the buttons to then be displayed.

some layout designers realised the font problem and started to do an extra area to the right with just the text/bonus area.

at the end of the day if the layout designer wishes to do a 1600x1200 for just himself - that that his call as hes the one that made it.

I have a simple solution to this that'll benefit everyone, Ok so it's not simple but it doe's work and enable me to play Ploggys 1600DX layouts on my 17inch 1280x1024 supported monitor.

I ask you give me time to draft up a tutorial and that you will no longer ban my accounts, OK ?

P.s @Robin - Where is Rovers Return getting a bit restless over here waiting for a release. ;)

Dont know if this is possible but could the Cab be split in half?, so having the Reels and the feature board side by side, i have seen some dx,s with the side art having some interaction with the actual machine.
Most monitors and laptop screens are widescreen so using more of the width of the screen res than the hight would benefit alot of users
What shall i put here?

That would deffo work but it comes to the case of how it looks with the glasses side by side, even doing it that way you'd get people saying it doesn't look right, can't win really lol.

Thing is though Tommy, every complaint is for the buttons missing off the screen, im sure having them side by side would be a very good compromise.

The next layout i do which has some decent artwork i will try this,i'll do a normal 1280 as i do then one with the glasses side by side would have to work out some kind of boarder ot just cut the cab in half.Suppose you can only try and see if there liked, would solve the problem of the missing buttons/reels.

I think my method could benefit ALOT, But doubt many people will bother as it's more tech inclined and is dependable on people's specs and desperation to be able to want to play the higher res layouts. I use virtual machine software to emulate and run a copy of my operating system with-in my current operating system allowing me to adjust the screen res and use side scrolls to position the machine so it fits correctly. Works pretty well.

My specs are pretty basic so shouldn't see to many people having problems:
Pentium®4 CPU 2.93GHz
1.00GB of RAM + (Disabling of unneeded services)
Windows XP Service Pack 3
Nvida GeFORCE 8400 GS (£15 Gfx card)
17In monitor which officially supports upto 1280 by 1024 but is capable of displaying 1600x900/1600x1200 without ill effects. Laptops will unofficially support 1280x1024 & 1600x900 so possibly capable of playing Ploggy's 1600DX layouts :)

In short: All you need is the required specs to support the running of a virtual machine and cloning software to load your current system onto the virtual machine. Or You can install fresh from a disc an operating system.

I cloned my laptops partitions, Using Acronis True Image 2011 then transfered the .tib (10GB) image over my home network then loaded it into VMWare Workstation 7. Fired up MFME and loaded a 1600DX of Viva Mexico (=

End result:

Keeping in mind as I only have 1GB RAM and It's an exact clone of my current system I can further disable more unneeded processes, my Anti-virus etc and if your short on hard drive space remove all the unnecessary crap maybe even create a custom install disc using nLite to remove built in crap.

Laptop users might struggle with hard drive space. But if it's a fairly new laptop chances are you'll have bigger hard drive capacity or buy an external USB hdd.

Most of my layous are 1024 as people will know but I have been working on 1280 Dx layouts in the last few months as the machines I have been working on would just not hold up as a 1024 Dx layout we try and get the layouts to look as close to the real machine as we can and when we try and cut the machine up and add items on the side art so people can play the machine at 1024 im thinking of Reel 2 Reel here we get people saying it looks a mess and there was no point in doing that machine at that size so its hard when on 1 hand you want as many people as you can to enjoy the machine and on the flip side you want it to be as close to the real machine but I am looking into a FSDX of Golden Balls and still trying to work a Devil of a Deal so dont give up plus Tommy has worked on a 1024 Dx of Fever that will be in the same file as the 1280 Dx when its added to the site so we do try our best

Dont forget if you see a machine where you cant find a 1024 Dx and you would like to see one then speak up we will soon let you know if it can be done and if we have the artwork to do it

You answered your own question there, as you said its more tech inclined, and i dont think theres many members who have the same set up as each never mind the set up you have.

So what you guy's think ? There are free alternatives like VMware Player 3.1.4 or virtual box very similar software but virtual box does not support basic drop/drag or copy and paste features but you can setup shared folders the only benefit of virtual box is you can download appliances VDI files which are pre-installed operating systems mostly supporting open source freeware operating systems like ubuntu.

I've only been using the software for about a week. Once you've got your head wrapped around the basics it's fairly simple.. Also you can experiment installing different operating systems or test out cloning and backing up (Thats what I was doing) of your current system. Running unsafe software/testing virus's I won't post ware links as I doubt it's allowed but RUtracker (Which is a Russian torrent tracker) & Warez.bb which is an open warez board has it pretty much covered.

I was pointing out you don't need great specs in able to run the VM's you can configure the machines to use as much RAM or as little as you want. Mine's set to 512MB which is more then enough for running MFME. Just disable unneeded services on the host machine so your guest & host machines aren't laggy. TBH I'm not hocked up on fruit machines as the rest of you I get bored after 5minute play but why not ?

Emulated fruit machines on emulated operating systems ;)

Could always play a classic version rather than a DX - the classic won't be fixed in terms of what goes where, so can easily accomodate the larger machines.

So I guess no one is willing to adjust and use a virtual machine ? I think it solves many people's problems. Far more effective then cropping/splitting creating multiple and downsizing layouts 1280's are great but if future MFME updates are arising then no doubt the resources for these new layouts are gaining advancing better quality thus it would make sense to be heading for 1600DX Layouts as default and 1280's for lower spec monitors with the aid of a virtual machine for the laptop user.

Some Good quality classics about, and in some cases they are better than the DX
