Enjoy your couple of weeks in respite care and make the most of the time whilst your there to get your strength and health back on track.

A bit of space and time just to collect your thoughts, relax and not getting stressed out can work wonders.

PS. Hope they've got Wi-Fi :)

I have just had the residential carehome manager call and see me for his assessment, and I have been confirmed for respite care from 10th May...

...his name is Dean, and seemed a real genuine guy, who cares about his residents and their needs... which is refreshing to see with some of the things I have had to endure with my Mam and stepdad's care.

He said I will be most welcome and is looking forward to having me stay there at the carehome on my respite break - so hopefully, things will be fine after a rest and break from it all. :)

Hopefully, come May 10th this cold weather will also be on a respite break, and you get some sunshine to cheer you up as well.

That looks very nice Daryl,

I hope you have a lovely relaxing time there, I have been reading more and more into everything and am learning more and more about it all.

TBH some of it is confusing to read but hopefully I will understand more and be able to help others more then what I can do now :)

I go on my hols on the 21st may for a week and cant wait for it, just make sure you have your feet up and take it easy :)

'Sidestep Dementia by Avoiding Animal Protein' Advises Leading British Psychotherapist
Press release from: Peter Field Hypnotherapy
Leading UK psychotherapist, Peter Field is advising his Harley Street patients to abstain from eating meat and animal protein if they value their long-term mental health. According to him, there is a direct link between consumption of animal protein and cognitive dysfunction, which may result in Alzheimer's disease and senile dementia.

Field, who is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health and a regular BBC contributor, says that there is a clear connection between dementia, cognitive impairment and meat eating, as well as other diseases such as certain types of cancer and diabetes. 'The research is very convincing', he states.

Field quotes Cornell University Professor T. Collin Campbell, author of The China Study and internationally acknowledged authority in the area of disease and diet: 'Cognitive dysfunction tends to be much higher among people who are consuming an animal based diet. People with cognitive dysfunction have now been shown to have about a 6 fold increase risk of Alzheimer's disease'.

Agreeing with Professor Campbell, Field says that the best way to avoid such problems is to adopt a whole food plant-based diet, which provides all of the elements necessary for good health -- mental and physical.

Peter Field Hypnotherapy is a psychotherapy practice that uses hypnosis in order to bring about rapid change and improvement in mental, emotional and physical health. With busy clinics in Harley Street, London, and Brindleyplace, Birmingham, UK, Peter Field is a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, Member of the National Guild of Hypnotists (USA) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health, and is one of the most respected hypno-psychotherapists working in Britain today.

A good read there PM mate... but in all honesty I only eat white meat anyway, and I wouldn't give my chicken or pork up for no one... not even myself.

The damage is done to me in my present condition mate and irreparable - as I have said I AM living and accepted all that. To some people it may be beneficial, but to me it all seems "grabbing at straws" guesswork because no one does, or ever will in my opinion fathom the brain and its full functions out - each scientist and professor who does a Thesis on this is just is own opinion at the end of the day... it is I who has to live with the condition, not those, so I will chose the path that is comfortable to me.

I do like reading the articles you post though PM so do keep linking the odd one that you might think could be a good read, because that is all I do with these theory papers :)

I've had a letter from the dementia clinic today stating that due to new government directives, they are restricting care for people at the clinic in favour of diagnosing more people with the illness, and that after an appointment, which had been postponed now until December, I will have follow up dementia care handled by my GP...

...that will be fun - you have got to be dead a fortnight before you can get an appointment at mine!

The government was supposed to be putting a few million pounds, pledged by the PM, into dementia care services - instead, my local dementia clinic is releasing its diagnosed patients to general GP care because of 'lack of resources'...

Disgusted doesn't begin to describe how I'm feeling at the minute!

Sorry to hear that Daryl, it's beyond belief that the government want more people to visit their GP.  Total madness!!!. Of course the stats come first and the patients last, it seems that's all the government are interested in.

Well try and relax and think of your respite care next month.

Hi Daryl, I have read this thread over the past few days - haven't had chance to post much lately due to work and I'm only a noob here anyway - but the only person I ever had first hand experience of dementia-wise was my nan and she passed away before it got a full grip.  However, I do want to let you know (sincerely) that despite what I have just sad about being new here and not knowing you, you are in my thoughts and I completely wish you the happiest and fulfilled best wishes despite me being a silly biker b**tard hehe.

Honestly man, raising a glass to you right now.

Take care Daryl.

Smash... you are most kind mate, and thank you.

You may be a 'noob' as you put it, but you have posted in other threads without rambling and were courteous in your first posts - not many who have started here over the past few years have got off to as good a start.

I hope you have many happy more years here - and me being alongside you, still waffling on! :p lol

I went to visit the place where I will be having some daycare treatment when I have had my respite care in Oakdene residential care home last week with my Social Worker.

It is very nice there, and a place where I can do activities, if I want to, or just sit there or walk around the gardens (with my ciggies ;)).

After discussing the fact I shall be on respite care from the 10th May they said they would send me the official paperwork with my placement appointment and today I gave received it..,

...the first viditing date is for week I shall be in respite care!

I have had to telephone them to make them aware of what they had done, because obviously my Social Worker and I had made them aware of my respite, and they have blamed 'computer error' for the mistake.

I really go feel sorry for all the PCs and printers that get the 'blame' for any mistakes made - especially when human input has to make them work in the first place! ;)

I am having problems logging into Fruit Emu when using my mobile data - so here is my post from the Site Problems - just to keep you informed. :)

I have found that now when I am using my mobile data on my iPhone (3 Network) that I can’t log into Fruit Emu…

…So when I go into respite for the duration, I may not be able to keep you informed of how things are. If that is the case, I will write an update when I come back home  :)

I didn't know whether to post this or not... but seeing as though it is part of my journey through this illness and I have been pretty upfront with you all since I started this thread on the day of my diagnosis - this journal wouldn't be complete without its entry.

I have relinquished all responsibility to my niece and nephew today for financial and official affairs due to the progression of my illness. I have decided to do it whilst I am still aware of my situation so as they do not have a minefield when the time comes that they would have to do it through legal process. It has been a massive, and very emotional step. I have been thinking about it for some time now, but due to missed payment of bills and appointments that 'slipped' my mind, I have realised that it is the only course of action that could sensibly be taken.

Although it is an admittance of the advancement of my Alzheimer's Disease, it is also a liberating feeling knowing that I haven't got to worry about keeping up with everything anymore - it has been quite exhausting to do that recently.

I know how former Queen Beatrix might be feeling now... ;)

That's a relief to see this in black and white now - I hope you all don't think I am just giving in with what I've done - I just couldn't cope with how things were presently.

Thank you all for your continued support in my journey! :)

Hey Daryl, no way is that 'giving in' it's called being responsible. It's quite stressful these days trying to manage your finances, even more so when you have to go on line. Passwords, meaningful phrases, pin numbers, the street you lived in, the name of your aunties next door neighbours cat, your favourite flavoured crisps!!!!!! FFS.

You know Daryl I would gladly pay someone to sort that out rather than having to do it myself.

Well I think it shows strength on your behalf to confront this issue, it's an emotional point in your battle with Alzheimers, but I'm sure it will give you piece of mind.

All the best M8.

Regards

                Ricardo.
