Great sentiment but ignores the point people were making.
Everyone would have been silently waiting and hopeful if so many promises and claims hadn't been made with dates and stuff.. Lots of people offering free services give dates that they are going to release do them.. People still get annoyed when those dates pass without the promised item - the problem is the original setting of dates and claims create unnecessary expectation within a market.
If Guitar had simply said I will be releasing an emulator this year nobody would be complaining.. If the claim hadn't been everything would change peoples expectations
wouldn't have been so high and nobody would be questioning this.
Personally I'm happy to wait, but I am always and always will be an advocate of free speech and expression, so I can understand why people would moan or even just dare to ask a question of when it will be released.

It doesn't ignore the point that he and others were making at all, namely being critical of 'bitching, backstabbing' and all the ridiculous antics of perhaps a half dozen people, over years and years, all over the same old inconsequential shite (which basically boils down to Person A not liking Person B), in a scene consisting of hundreds of active, constructive posters who do not indulge in such obsessive, petulant, childish crap.
No, we've been through this. "The problem" as you put it is a very small minority of highly vocal individuals getting on Guitar's (and Wizard's) case. Guitar isn't Microsoft; he's one bloke who has stated that he has health, life and work issues, who has been fighting and striving with this project singlehanded for years and years - for free - to bring us an emulator. All in his spare time. He set himself a "deadline", doubtless in all good faith and excited about developments at that time, but "missed" it for the perfectly understandable reasons he stated. The VAST MAJORITY of people in this scene - including Wizard himself - expressed their support and empathy with him on this, stating that they didn't mind waiting... and I should hope not anyway. Again, it was only those same very few who antagonised him over this, slating him and his unreleased project, just as those same people have pissed on Wizard's and other emu authors' bonfire again and again over the years, not to mention layout producers also for their so-called "BAF", "eye bleeder", "hyped" layouts or whatever. You've been around long enough, you know all this to be true.
Again, we've been through this. Guitar isn't Microsoft Corp., he's ONE MAN. This is a FREE 'product' that's hugely complex and difficult to produce; I know from personal experience that it's very easy indeed to under estimate the roll-out time of something so complex, even when seemingly nearing the end of the process, something can always come up. Besides, perhaps the bloke should've ignored his health and job opportunities, just so he could meet his "deadline" for his FREE product? LoL.
No-one has a problem with people asking (polite) questions, least of all Guitar. He's said so many times. However, asking questions is one thing, abuse and slating off a product that has not even seen the light of day is quite another ('reinvented wheel emulator', 'coder's disease', 'just get it released so we can have MFME' etc.). As is those same few applying relentless, unreasonable pressure re. 'missed deadlines', usually in a provocative manner, all as aforestated. I think you need to make this basic distinction here.
Also, yes, freedom of speech is important, but should not be without limits, e.g. basic, common courtesy and decency. This forum, for example, is moderated, as indeed most are - with good reason. Whilst it is certainly possible to over-moderate, an unregulated forum of any size is usually a disaster (as was FF before moderation was belatedly reintroduced, albeit not before considerable damage was inflicted on the scene by this same small group of warring individuals).
This 'freedom' to express irrational vendettas of hatred by a few - over absolutely f*** all at the end of the day, as far as I, and surely any sane, rational person can see, is not valid. As I've said, it just boils down to certain people not liking certain other people and trying to hound them out of this hobby, or worse, and not giving a shit about the wider consequences for everyone else. Over the many years, my surprise at these antics has evolved to incredulity, from incredulity to frustration, and eventually from frustration to deep anger. I have tried, numerous times over the years to talk some sense into some of those concerned, with absolutely no success. I might just as well talk to my f*****g dog about it.
Me? If I were a moderator of an FME forum, their arses would not have touched the ground, permanantly, leaving the majority of people in peace to enjoy their hobby, the layout producers to produce their layouts and above all, the emu coders to code their emulators.
As I said previously, I know for a FACT that many have had it up to their necks with the whole 'DT said this, Wizard said that and is a c***, AT was an Apostate of Hell, EPEE caused the Earth to stop rotating and seVen was actually Tom Cruise with sekret info from Maygay' - NO-ONE GAVE A f*** THEN, AND CERTAINLY NOT NOW, 5 YEARS LATER. If these people, finally, find something else to occupy their time, hopefully far away from here, then I for one will rejoice.
This really is the last I'm going to say on this subject, because even saying 'stop f*****g talking about this inconsequential, meaningless, obsessive SHIT' invites still yet further comment and 'debate', which is the very thing that I, and no doubt others want to avoid at all costs.
I'm hoping against hope that a line can finally be drawn, where we as a complete, collective scene can show some maturity, manners, encouragement and gratitude - that we've all moved on. Maybe, MAYBE, this might mean that we can eventually aspire to a position of where we would have been years ago, were it not for the very few repeatedly spoiling things for the very many.

Hi James,
Can I please ask what do you mean by that?
Are you saying that Wizard can't be friends with people?

Hi,
What I meant by that was sometimes people think by being overnice (brown-nosing we used to call it) everyone's their buddy. But in the real world asking questions doesn't do the opposite as telling people how great their blouse looks doesn't turn them in to your bestest buddy/ mate.

Some of us are chiming in thinking we are doing the authors a personal favour by saying we are happy to wait another month for a free emulator, as if we've lent them £500 or something. What the f***'s it got to do with us? Where does this sense of entitlement come from? It's summer - let's all pack our towels and flip-flops and go down to the beach. When we come back, maybe it will be ready
