This post is wrong on so many levels.

Hence the reason i cannot comment on events .. i am not willing to speculate,make assumptions,throw accusations on anyone because i dont know enough about the whole situation to do so.

I just sit back and let things take their course..if all this means we will never get a future update of MFME then so be it..thats just the way it is..if the parties involved can come to some sort of agreement and we do get a new MFME then brilliant.

All im saying is im not bothered either way..what ever happens happens.

This post is wrong on so many levels. MAME have not forbidden Wizard to release MFME. What they have done is to ask that he complies with the licence terms that he accepted as soon as:

a) he included whacking great chunks of MAME code in MFEME
b) he release a binary file of the MFME (the MFME executable)

Additionally Wizard actually broke the terms of the MAME licence by originally selling early copies of MFME for commercial gain which is a big no no.

May I suggest you hop along to DADSFME and read the very detailed threads about this as members spreading shite like this will do nothing to help this situation.

Ultimately, if MAME had not existed then MFME would not have existed.

The ONLY person stopping an updated release of MFME is Wizard himself as if he does then he knows he will have to release the source code with it. You may ask why Wizard wouldn't want the source code of an updated MFME in the public domain and I think that would be a very interesting question to get an answer to; though I doubt an answer will be forthcoming.

And tell me, just what do you think the scene has lost out on. I mean have you ever read up on the history. Let me get you started with this corker of a post from the great man himself, the best part of 5 years ago now. NOTHING has changed.

Wizard won't do this so we (the FME scene) don't get a new version of MFME. I hasn't got anything to do with our history. All I'm saying is te MAME team could allow Wizard to release MFME closed source if he gets permission from the people who wrote the origanal code (I beleive its the cores which Wizard used). While pople in the MAME scene should know who these people are, Wizard is unlikley too so a litte bit of comprimise from both parties would be beneficial. I didn't know it was sold origanally, but this has no bearing on future releases as long as they are free.

Why in the name of little apples should Wizard get special treatment? Why should he be treated differently from EVERY other coder who has used MAME code? Bottom line is he should not and he should play by the rules. The fact is HE (and he alone) chooses NOT to play by the rules so it is Wizard and him alone who everyone should be asking why. He has f***ed FME no one else. No one is forcing him to keep MFME on his HDD. He has spoilt the hobby of 1000s of innocent members because he can't get his own way. It is that simple, no arguments.

Again why should he get special treatment, for God's sake he even tried and succeeded to SELL the code he stole. He was offered an olive branch the other day by Haze and I guess (I know) Haze bent as much as the license would allow but all 'we' got was the big NO from Wizard, so who is to blame, who is being childish, who is spoiling 1000s of people hobbies just because he can't have it all his own way? Selfish does not even come close it it.

Maybe? Total understatement. Just remember and this goes to a fair few other posters on this forums, WITHOUT MAME THERE WOULD BE NO MFME. Please stop and understand this before you go just wanting a new MFME at no matter what selfish costs.


I think as far as common sense is concerned it would be nice for a mod to make it perfectly clear to people here the situation regarding MFME/MAME because really it is 'disturbing' reading all the uneducated posts here on this subject and really shows the posters up for what they are - selfish.

Personally I'm not bothered if no new techs are included as i'm just grateful for what we have now. Thanks to Wizard/guitar and other emu creators and all layout creators. etc.

To be honest I'm passed caring - either it'll get released or it won't *shrugs*

It was rightly aimed at the people here who think it is okay to f*** off MAME but not okay to f*** off MFME. It was aimed at the people here who are so 'blinded' that they do understand without MAME there would be no MFME (I mean ffs there was a thread here the other day asking if MAME runs on a PC for Gawd's sake,) it's aimed at the people who are so selfish they do not give a f*** about emulation as long as they get a new MFME at no matter what cost.

There is nothing stopping Wizard from continuing to release updates of MFME, provided the source code is available alongside the binary. Is it really that hard or demeaning to simply zip up the source code and put it on a website next to the binaries?

If MAME itself was closed source, it probably wouldn't have gone further than the pre-2000 DOS era due to Nicola and/or other major devs of the time stopping work on it and moving onto something else, like many other emulators in the past have suffered. MFME was seemingly just another emulator to leave people wondering whether it was ever going to be updated.

A similar thing happened with the pSX emulator, which after constant updates and breakthroughs stopped dead at 1.13 whilst the author seemingly vanished into thin air. To those who have never used the emulator before, version 1.13 was released way back in 2007. Naturally it was closed source, so no-one can simply take over where the author left off; it's just dead in the water and the captain has gone down with his ship. It was a major blow to those who just knew that ePSXe and the hacky PSEmu plugin system should not have been the one and only road to truly emulating the PlayStation.

If its a simple case of keeping MFME as open source and including the binaries, why wouldn't Wizard do so? Is it a simple case of him wanting to be God? Or is it something more selfless and not wanting his hard work messed with?
