Sweet ! forgot all about that Alan...

OK, this is gonna sound a bit odd, but can you remove the JP decals, turn off the flash and turn out the lights (ooer, dont worry im not waiting for you in the closet :D) and take a pic of the brightly lit bulb in the white VAC?

The Vac is the concaved (I think its concaved..) white plastic thing that the bulbs clip into..

Basically Ive had an idea for a new lighting method thats 100% realistic and could do away with the conventional omni lamping, adding alot more realism to layouts.

If youre confused at all by any of that just say so :)

I understand what you mean - removing the decals could be interesting. I'll give it a go

btw, just to show you that you wont be wasting your time...

This effect doesnt include *any* computer generated light at all, basically it involves the use of opaque layers to reveal a real lamp sitting below the glass, as a machine would light IRL.

It's very tricky to do, the pic below took me about an hour LOL but the more I fiddle the quicker the technique is becoming.

Please bear in mind that the below shot didnt use a real fruit machine lamp, instead I used what I could find - a 60 watt phillips lightbulb ROFL.

Youll also note that using this method allows the lamp itself to become transparent, showing the bulb behind it...

OK Andy I give up! How the f*ck do you change or remove the decals? The whole thing looks sealed and it looks like a major effort to be able to get to the glass to change the decals.

Any ideas?

hmm, not really mate no.

I have a scorpion 4 machine (not to hand and no camera) and you literally grab the tab and slide them out mate.

I've no idea how to do them on a impact machine..

Here, let me talk to Tony who has a sonic (and no camera lol), he should know how to get them out...

It cant be that hard, infact it should be really easy on a club machine..

Ill get back to you as soon as I can mate :)

ok, no response from Tony yet but Ive had another idea :)

I gather its a front opener?

If it is, detatch a bulb that lights and take a photo of it straight on.

Dont worry about it being in the VAC for now, just a nice brightly lit bulb should do the trick :)

We can always get a VAC shot when I find out how to remove the decals :)

Dialtone: They should just slot into a slot in the vac
aluren_cat: thats what i thought...
aluren_cat: you dont mind if I quote you on that do you?
Dialtone: Basically, find the tab that's sticking out and gently pull on it to slide the decal out
aluren_cat: k..
Dialtone: nope go right ahead
aluren_cat: ta
aluren_cat: thats how CF works
Dialtone: Yeah - most machines are the same... HOWEVER
aluren_cat: k
Dialtone: the tab may have been cut off, so it may not be simple (or even possible) to remove them on some machines
aluren_cat: ok
Dialtone: and in the case of bootleg decals (i.e. moody photocopies) they are often pushed into the slot and lost forever so to speak because they have no tab lol
Dialtone: Anyway, in any case if there's no tab visible, check it isn't hidden behind tape
Dialtone: and sometimes you need to look on the vac right close to the frame itself

lol, hopefully thatll help alan :)

Thanks for that Andy, I'd always wondered what those tabs were for. They were stuck down on mine, but easy to prise off.

Are these sort of what you want?

So what you trying to do here Andy? The pic shows two areas one lit and one unlit, correct? Well the lit one appears to have no colour. Obviously if a lamp is going to shine through coloured decals or glass it is going to 'illuminate' that colour not make it go totally white like in your example....obviously the closer the colour is to the filament part of the bulb the brighter it is going ot be.

What gives?
