ive taken my sister and her kids to many south coast arcades/fun fairs over the last couple of years and spent many ££ at my 7yo neice's request (buggin me every 5 minutes!) trying to win one of those big chupa chups from the crane grabber, and never won one, so i have come up with the perfect cheat... i just bought 1 off ebay and im gonna smuggle it in with me and pretend to win it next weekend when we go to hastings
ive a question though, do the crane grabbers actually work on some sort of % ?

i think they do the grabbers grab the prize more tightly when the win (prize) is to be won about 1% of the time

Yeah..thats what i was thinking..they have one with the teddies with a £10 note attached to them in my shopping centre..ive put the odd quid in here n there won it once.

Sometimes you see the claw things grab them and its a direct hit..but as it pulls it up its so weak it just lets go of it..probably for every £20 in the claws grab properly and tightly enough.

i remember when i was about 12-15yrs old down newquay on hols played grabby,s and kept winning they,d pick up upto 4 yes 4 at a time had several dozen in a week year later they were tight as f@*k so yes also read somewhere they are percentaged based also pisses me off when you,ve put £20 in to win a £1 shop teddy only to get it right on the edge you go to get another 20x£1,s and either some little squirt puts 30p in and wns it or the arcade attendent,s put the bloody thing back up at the back again swines

They use a little yellow box that can be set to the amount of goes before a win, when your not gonna win the claw becomes poweless so the weight of the item just wiggles its way out, when its time to win the claw just simply locks shut and your a winner most arcades are set around the 15 goes before a win, unless you get some shit ones that are up to 30 lol

Has anybody ever seen luxery grabbers that contain items such as an ipod or xbox. The issue with this is the ipod's are protected in some sort of plastic casing and xbox with cardboard. How is a claw meant to pick up such items? i know some have little rubber tips on not all though, so surely it must be near impossible?

On a similar subject slightly OT but not really..when i was in the arcade in Butlins Skegness they had a 10p pusher and in it there was a cheapo plastic digital watch with a £20 attached to it.

I said to my lad be ok if ye won that eh..and look at it , its very close to dropping..tried about a quids worth of 10ps got nothing apart from the odd 20p or 30p.

As we walked away to go play the machines..a guy comes up with keys..opens the front of it..picks the watch up and moves it right to the back...WTF !!! Cheatin basses..

ive not read all the replies here, but basically the grabber is a highly advanced piece of kit. as you may know you get `floppy grabs` etc and even in the last second it lets go a bit. once the achieved % is hit you can win a teddy etc. if you win 2 in close succession, it will compensate itself just like a fruit machine.

an absolute winner for the arcade owner.

I read this on the 1st day of it being made.....i'd have said.....

Nah they are just hooks with a really soft 'grab action' and the way to win is if the vendor piles them (winnings) up.

When I watch them they get to a position and grip (usually an 1" above the goodies) on going back up...and then with a crap amount of pressure!

If i'm honest I am really amazed they are so advanced, i'd not have thought that in a million years.

PS Last thing I won was 10 Embassy No6....the joys of being a teen in the 70's hahaha

Those big chupa chups are a right rip off anyway, its just a few small lollies inside a plastic lolly, i won the daughter 1 a while back expecting a huge lolly

Actually i was wondering that myself...i thought surely they cant make a lolly that big..it would last a kid 12 years.

chupa chups make 2 types, 1 contains a number of small lolly's and the other (the one i got) is 1 giant lolly
