I've been running it for a while, and recently implemented it on a fair number of machines. I have to say that it's a real improvement to security and general system performance. All of the installs went fine, but one machine just died to the point where it would not even go into safe mode. Not a huge issue for me, as we were imaging the machines prior to the install but you may want to just backup your important stuff first in case you're unlucky. This update is basically code originally designed from the next release of Windows, so for a free upgrade it's a pretty damn good deal IMHO (even if some of these features should have been implemented before...)

But as I always said........why such a big SP?...Reason is MS screwed up in the first place!!
I love the user friendly side of windows.....But again MS should address issues prior to releasing a new OS..........Not just sell it then think shit should have added this.......and this...........and this..........etc---to the point at max it amounts to another half a CD!
***UPDATE***
Had a reply from MS following an email at the vast size and dial-up users.
You'll be pleased to hear that this is going to appear on the cover disc's of next issue PC mags.........An obvious solution I know but for the sake of a fiver and holding on say a week or Two it may be worth waiting for them to appear...........and indeed quicker!!!!!!

Another thing you need to consider when installing SP2 is it will slow down MFME quite a lot.
Haven't been able to figure out why yet, but the reels are a lot slower than before.
Reducing you're Desktop to 16 Bit helps but it's still not the same.
Any tech heads know why the SP slows down MFME so much?
JPeMu and BFMulator are not affected by the SP. Only MFME.

Thanks for that ploggy i thought it was just me..i too have noticed MFME layouts running much slower than usual.I mean they run slow on mine anyway with my low processer speed..I was actually looking into the possibility of removing the SP-2 dont want to have to cos im finding it quite useful with the pop-up blocker and stuff.
Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know.

THANX FOR THE LINK.THATS WERE I GOT IT FROM...BUT MY ORIGINAL ISO WAS XP PRO WITH SP1 INC....
it would never let me auto update as the key was not a valid key...
when i tried to install sp2 it said my key was banned and would throw me out of install wen key checking...
i found a program to correct the key alter the key to a new one and install sp2...which i am very pleased with.........

Yip with my AMD 3000 and 512 ram blah blah blah MFME is badgered. The reels run reely slow.. however the number reels seem unaffected. Well it is always a good excuse to delay the new release even more.....bhawawawawawaw

Talking about Service Pack 2. I have just gone to the Windows Update page, and reviewed my Installation History. It says that my Windows XP Service Pack 2 failed.
Does anyone know what I can do to get the installation downloaded? I am on 650kb ntl: Broadband, so downloading it won't be too much of a problem. Anyone know where you can get the official version, other than from Windows Update?
Your help will be appreciated - thanks in advance.

Well, it depends if you already had up-to-date updates before instaling sp2.

From what I have heard service pack 2 has been quite a pain on some computers.............At least most of you are installing it error free. If you turn your automatic updates on microsoft will automatically download SP2 in the background.
But why wait? Its up for download at www.microsoft.com as you all know!

A better idea than the usual XP install then install the Service Pack is to create a slipstream disk this has the Service Pack ready installed. 8)

I have downloaded XP SP2 and installed it. I too suffer from MFME going exceptionally slow. I used Norton System Doctor to monitor my machine and when running MFME my CPU Usage is 100% (there must be something wrong here).
Has anyone got any ideas.
I used Norton Anti Virus and Spybot nothing out of the ordinary.

Two things:
1) I have removed SP2 from my computer and MFME is back running at full speed (mega quick).
2) If anyone is thinking of downloading SP2 I would suggest downloading it from Microsoft as the file size is only 75mb. I will download it from there later and see if MFME still runs slow.
I did previously download the 250mb+ version recomended in this post.
I am not saying there is any problem in downloading the version referred to in this post (as it has been OK for most people). However for those unlucky few just be aware.

On my PC it downloaded 75mb, and then decided it needed to download more, taking it to 119.5mb I think. If you have SP1 on it should only be about 75mb.

Sorry Guys, Didnt see Amber_Nectar's post.
It depends if you regularly download updates from Microsoft, if so then it should be approx 75mb. If not then it can be anything up to 266mb.
Its strange that SP2 effects MFME for some people, can anyone shed any light on this point? (the difference is incrediable).

If you want a similar experience, put on Norton Internet Security 2004, you get a similar slowdown on most stuff
I bet they rush out 4GHz CPUs once more people install SP2
