Hi all, Just bought myself a Barcrest Golden Dragon. Its a absolute minter but i need some help in setting it up. The hopper is set at £250( think it had a note changer thing at some stage) Would like some info on emptying the machine and then filling it up so its ready to play as it would be in the pub. I have £100 to put in for now. Also what can i do when i use the refill key and the machine is locked. There's lots of displays about % and coins in etc but i'm sure i read somewhere that you can alter the volume? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanx, Daz

Right, what you need to do then is clear the memory. Have you looked inside the machine at the MPU5? I've enclosed a pic at the bottom. There you see the sticker which says 'Stake / Prize'.

Remove the 'key' which is actually a plug of sorts, and turn the machine on [with the top door closed!] It should say something like 'Jackpot changed, resetting'. Then, turn the machine off when it has initialised, and reinsert the stake and prize ket. That will clear the machines RAM, and set it back to a factory reset state [£0 in, £0 out].

I have £100 to put in for now. Also what can i do when i use the refill key and the machine is locked.

Well, the machine will now hopefully have a Cash Low light on [if applicable], and if you put in the Refill key and turn it [With the doors closed, and the machine turned on and initialised], it should say something like PND HOP BAL = £0 or similar. All you need to do is insert as many pound coins as you want. £100 would be good, but if you want £25 to play with, £75 will be adequate.

By refilling like that, the machine will know it only has £75 in, instead of the hopper level, and so £1 coins will go into the hopper when inserted rather than into a cashbox at the bottom.

There's lots of displays about % and coins in etc but i'm sure i read somewhere that you can alter the volume? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanx, Daz

That means that you have put the key in whilst in 'freeplay' mode - with a door open as an example. To change volume, make sure that the doors are closed, and hold the 1st HOLD button, THEN insert the refill key and turn. It should say something like 'VOL 1 > 20 = 10', where 10 is the current level. Use the hold buttons to change the volume [not sure which ones, should be easy to work out!], and then turn the key when it is ok.

Sorry to post in upper case now, but this is important :

IF YOU USE THE REFILL KEY MORE THAN ONCE WITH THE MACHINE TURNED ON IT WILL OFTEN HAVE NO EFFECT AFTER ONE USE, AND TURNING WILL JUST MAKE THE DISPLAY MOVE ACROSS SLIGHTLY. IF THAT HAPPENS, TURN IT OFF AT THE WALL FOR SAY 10 SECONDS, BACK ON, AND TRY AGAIN

Hi, just in from work and haven't tried anything yet. Got the machine for £210 but like i said " its mint" considering its probably been form pillar to post the cabinet is really good! there's just a little bit of the gold missing on the left hand edge. believe me i'm a fussy sod so for me to be happy with it, it must be good. plays mint too.

Sort of from ebay. It was on there but it was being sold by a company near to where i work and i had already enquired with them about buying one. Anyhow i've managed to get the volume altered and think i can reset the counters eg pounds / pence in etc but cant change the float thingy from £250, would like to set it at £75. Any ideas? the machine is empty @the mo. Thanx again, Daz

P.S. There's a switch to the right of the power supply, it looks like its wired into the same loom as the hopper dump switch thats next to the cash boxes

Ok, I'd not recommend a £75 float myself, but heres how you do it :

Open the cashdoor at the bottom of the machine, and then the cashbox door inside there on the right hand side. There should be a button there that says 'Hopper Dump'.

Insert the refill key, leaving that door open, and turn the the right to view Hopper Balance, and then press Hopper Dump. It should say something like 'Press Start to dump £1' across the display. Press that, and the machine will drop all the £1 coins. When its finished, press the Start button again to reset the float level to £0 [it'll make a whirring noise as it makes sure theres no coins in the hopper]. Then close the bottom doors.

Open the top door. Towards the back of the machine there should be the hopper - its like an open topped box, normally with a '£1' sticker inside of it. Pour £75 into there. Then press the hopper topped up button next to it [should have a big yellow sticker next to it].

The hopper now contains £75, although the machine will claim it holds £250 [You can't change the float level to £75 any other way as far as I am aware, but this way works fine!].

When you want to use the refill key to see how much cash is inside, just substract £175 from the amount on the display, to see how much is in there. Be warned that a RED top feature [or even a normal one], or a close series of wins on Golden Dragon 'could' empty a hopper set to £75. If that happens though, just go into the cashbox, pour £75 from there into the hopper and press 'Hopper Topped Up' again

EDIT] Just read the post above, not sure about that switch :S Isn't there a sticker or anything pointing at it?

Theres a chance that it is another hopper dump switch. The reason for that would be that, if you think about it, working inside a cashbox which could easily contain £1000+ in a busy pub could be a little scary!! - hence they could have wired in a switch that didn't require the cashbox to be open. Not sure though, I would say give it a try, but if the machine explodes, don't blame me!
