Guys, as you are all aware the Government are planning to introduce MGD (Machines Games Duty) taxes.

In the last two years 280 arcade CLOSED their doors for the last time.

MGD will mean MANY more will follow.

Also it will, without doubt, threaten our arcade and bring changes that could damage and is already affecting freeplay promotions etc.

PLEASE PLEASE take 2 mins just to sign this E-Petition. We really need your support for the industry as a whole. Origninaly posted on mrp's

All done too quite fitting for my 500th post but will the goverment listen and take note I very much doubt it they,ve taken away most of our pleasures I.e the car high costs to run, smoking, no smoking in pubs sky high prices for fags by the way i don,t smoke. Drinking in pubs, cost to much to drink in pubs, greed is what's killing this country offn and arcades are no different, just look at how many £500 jp machines are in bingo clubs cause there money makers and the onslaught of endless dond,s and £70er,s coming out all tight as ass holes. I,m also sure arcades are reducing the %,s the machines payout to under the 70% in the last 5-10yrs. Cause only last weekend me and the other half went to arcades playing partytimes as usual and put through £70 in a £5er a it did nowt, now that can,t be right can it!! So on one hand it is wrong to be taxed for every quid that goes in a slot cause that will only mean the owners puttin the %,s down even further to make up for the tax they pay. One the other hand they could regulate the percentage the machines pay out and the owners should put up the %,s of machines to 85% meaning the machines payout more meaning less in the box but more people playing machines cause of the higher payouts more players more profit but the players enjoy the gaming experiance more and stay for longer like the good old days

I just glanced over the tax at http://www.hm-treasu..._games_duty.pdf
Is it only profit that they get taxed on or is it just anything that they end up earning, even if it is a loss?

These do actually get read...but regardless of how many replies there are some get rejected prior to parliment...so is that not a bit pointless?

the car high costs to run,

We have our own oil and sell it.......then we import also to make petrol with??.......Yes I understand business is business but I couldn't and still cant grasp that!

smoking, no smoking

Thats the EU for you!

Not signing for 2 reasons. Treasure Island did not supply me with artwork when he had a machine there a few years ago and as I don't go to arcades, it doesn't interest me, it will probably be better for everyone financially if they all closed down as the machines are a waste of time now anyway. Personal opinion.

sorry i have to agree with £6 in tokens, i will only be signing my support to something that has robbed me pocket out of more than £5000 over the years due to a heavy gambling addiction, they all deserve to close down and maybe it would save a few people from going down 'that' road.

Guy's I think you miss tommy's point here.....

Ok tok has a personal issue...and danny is just a sheep..and me? I don't 'do' arcades anymore purely because the machines arn't fun now-a-days.

But get this into some sort of prospective...

You gamble....shut the arcades..

Drive...all get the bus

Smoke...give-up or pay it

Alcohol...ditto..give-up or pay it...

We need to understand a big point here......the leisure industry....imagine the Seaside with no arcade......and the job losses too!

Yes I spent thousands in my time in arcades...mabey the main reason is I live and grew-up in a tourist City?? and there's (especially as a youngster) a lot of temptation..but that was my choice.

Taxes, taxes and taxes....whatever industry it happens, Only today a major oil/petrol supplier went bust in the South......mabey it wasn't their fault...I doubt they wanted to charge too much?..

I drive and need petrol....should I push my car and say balls to the stations as I have spent loads there too?...nah....why?....because I see it's not the frontmans fault!

Don't shoot the messenger

I think Arcades closing has more to do with peoples lifestyles today, and attitudes towards them now than any tax levy.

GMD will replace both Amusement Machine Licence Duty and VAT on machines, and is only paid on the NET profit. It could actually result in an increase in the number of machines with them turning up in the most unlikely of places.
Only having to pay a tax if it makes a profit and not a fixed sum beforehand.

Because of our climate, arcades are what used to make up a big part of an attraction to a sea side town, slowly but surely they're all closing down, Why ? because taxes/rates/electricity/wage costs have gradually gone through the roof over time.

Machines are shit ? yes they are because the goverment has slowly bled the industry dry forcing %'s down and companies have turned to anything that makes a fast buck.

All my childhood life was spent holidaying at Ryhl or Great Yarmouth, now I wouldn't dream of taking my kids there as they're just run down shit holes. soon the only attraction the UK will have will be London and the rest of the country will get left behind, because without tourism and the amount of capitilism around there'll be no businesses of any note left surviving.

As I said abov e I,ve signed this petition even though I too have put in est 50k over the 20 odd years gambling but I always remember as a kid on holiday my parents giving me a pot of 2p,s or a couple of quid to goto arcades after being dragged around novelty shops for hours happy memories. If they,re gonna be taxed on the profit they make in the cashbox then maybe they,ll bring the percentages upto a reasonable amount 85% and if arcades dissappear for good that won,t stop the hardcore gambler like me, they,ll just go online like I do now or machines will go underground in seedy clubs/casinos so what's it to be.

Sorry which artwork is this? I can only apologise for the 100's of roms I have provided but without images on most. This is largely due to having a very large workload and a family to look after. I do apologise if you feel aggrieved.

As you have been mature about it please let me know the images you require me to take pictures for as I will probably still have the machine anyway.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention on a public forum. :err:

The machine was The Guvnor. Here's the link below to refresh your memory. First message you agreed to send pics, but did not, lso I send a few messages some with not even a reply.

Also I appriciate you provided 100's of roms, and I thank you for that. But is that soposed to be a statement that you are somehow more important around here than the average member. You are very mistaken if you do thnk that (that's what you implied above). I've contributed lots, some classics (well 2) over 20 Dx's, flyers, and some rare machines in group buys, not to mention ANSWERING 100's of PM's giving people little bit of advice here and there and countless hours on MSN talking through with new layout designers, plus all the other things that go with it, and occasionally supporting the odd forum with a donation (not here grated).

Not sure what the big crime was bringing it up here in a PUBLIC forum. I was only stating the truth!!!

Look guys we don't want more bad feelings in here as fme is at a low atm and I'm sure neither of you meant it to be better than each other. You have both been a massive help to the scene and we all appreciate all your hard work. Real life always come first so stuff may arise that takes you away from mfe. This can't be helped it's just life. :wubclub:
