i think for me i can `almost` stomach the loss of barcrest, its the sheer utter crap that will replace them that makes me cringe.
i could only assume that if the original barcrest staff started again and made their own machines..........

Aren’t JPM back in the running? I am sure I have read their webpage, cannot remember the link, with all the new ‘category’ machines, using Huber Pluto 6 technology I think - it would be nice to see them make a comeback — it’s just a shame about the new technology they are using.

barcrest are the most reliable machines going
we hardly have any call outs for them and i cant remember the last time i had to change a board or psu on one
the only calls we get for them are note jams or refills and the only complaint i have about them is how shit they are to get to the note acceptors

Do you need licences etc to make and sell machines as a manufacturer?
i.,e is it only the big players that could afford to make new reel based machines, even on a small scale?

Could be good news in a way. In the end, Barcrest started copying the DonD brand on pretty much every AWP they released. If has been said before, manufacturers like JPM and Electrocoin make some sort of comeback, we may get fresh ideas. Either way, server based games are not my cup of tea and means my hard earned will stay in my pocket.
Smacks of greed however, that manufacturers got greedy and are now having to adapt to declining pub visits, declining arcade visits and yet still they want to increase the stakes and jackpots for AWP's? Will they ever learn?
Sad to see the end of Barcrest as we know them, also sad that many hard working people have lost their jobs. But server based games will only alienate the casual player in reality. One pub I frequent has a traditional AWP and a server based machine, and only one takes any money.

When will the authorities learn that less is more? The bigger the jackpots became the LESS GLAMEROUS the pub fruit machine became. Bigger jackpot = Bigger payout cycle = less chance of winning or getting your money back/having a bit of fun.
It's sad that Barcrest have announced the end of Reel based machines but sh*t happens and times change. The issue is not that machines are based on touch screen instead of buttons and spinning reels. The issue is that your average Joe these days has less money to waste in the pub on a friday night not more and he is less likely to be enticed when your average one armed bandit is now £1 a spin (or was the last time i bothered to play a fruitie), plays complete pants, and offers you zero chance of getting your hard earned back. Given that virtually every machine nowadays has Noel Edmonds mug shot on it and they all look and play virtually the same is it surprising that the fruit machine industry as we all knew it diied on its arse?
In short they're simply not fun any more. Compare the latest Deal or No Deal with anyones favourite machine on any Tech between 1982 and 2000.
It's a no brainer.

This is what happens when the yanks take over, they f*** it all up! A seaside arcade or a pub with a fruit machine with reels is british tradition! They're everywhere so now Barcrest arent producing them anymore its going to make a huge impact on stuff, you cant replace pubs with this touch screen bollocks, people in pubs dont want that!
