Haha, no chance of that coming from me, I did ask a while ago and some nice person on here, I forget who, explained that it isn't possible yet and won't be for a good while due to all the different technologies and the new one not being cracked or something (at that time) yet.

Loving the progress by the way

Cheers!

The main problem with the newer machines is CCTalk.

Its a highly encrypted serial link between the cash in / out bits of the machine. It was put there to stop people being able to force machines to empty the hoppers or give free credits from outside intereferance.

And it is very heavilly protected. I have had conversations with a few people in the know, and they are all under very strict Non Disclosure Agreements about its operation.

So for the forseeable, unless someone wants to break their NDA and risk getting sued (and become unemployable in the industry), emulating it will be very difficult indeed, and from my perspective just not worth the time and effort.

Amber is about preserving machines and techs of the past which are fast disappearing, once SC4/SC5 with CCTalk become a thing of the past I may look into it, but for the time being there are several unemulated techs which deserve attention first.

wasn't it stampede with the red and blue horse shoes? We had on on £10 all cash back in the day but they are not emulated AFAIK.

Interesting mention of CCTalk, I looked into it a little more - is this what they use on train ticket self service machines? :o If so, I can see why they wouldn't want that cracking, at least not until everything moves to a different technology!

That's the problem, its used on loads of things, and its pretty good protection too, you cant crack it very easilly.

One day someone will crack it and then its just a case of waiting for it to go obselete.

But SC4/5, MPU5 doesn't really interest me. Epoch only interests me for the early Impulse games, and I owe "Pounds of the baskervilles" a good kicking. But for the most part systems like sp.ACE (with PCP), system 83, famous games, and Castle tech intrigue me a lot more as I have never played a fair number of the games.

Wow Guitar, I remember a long while back when you first appeared in the scene and so many people thought that you were full of crap.... that you would "talk the talk but couldn't walk the walk".

I have to say I am seriously impressed with what you have done here and really admire the effort you have put into something that was especially at the time, a dying scene.

It all looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. I'm sure you have...... but I do hope that you receive the recognition that you really deserve for this.

My hats off to you, sir

* Project Amber Goes Beta *

I have finally started sending out Beta copies of Amber to testing in a larger group. Its not finished, this is merely phase 1, but that said, its not far off either. The first public release will not be 100% complete but its good enough to run a large proportion of games. There are a few known bugs and I'm hoping that bugs that may appear in other games will shed some light on the cause, the more clues the better.

There are still improvments to be made over the next few days/weeks, but for the most part its all there, just not very refined.

Also, has anyone seen Ross? Not seen him about in a while, I was hoping he would finish off his Place Your Bets layout now the emulator can do what needs to be done.
