Right guys I have this pc thats refusing to load up, I have put a new had drive into it pre installed with win 7. i have already tried it with XP and vista. But it just wont load up. I even tried a new HDD which was the same the problem is when I turn on the pc after about 10 seconds of loading as it gets to the windows logo I get a blue screen saying this " *** STOP 0x0000005c(0x00000010B0x000000000x00000000)"

Any help would be great as I only have a few hours left to fix this problem.

Many thanks

Turbo

If the machines original fault was the Blue screen it is probably a sign of a faulty Hard drive.
Hard drives with OS already installed usually wont work in a alien machine.
Reading your post it appears you are getting the same result no matter what you try, so go into the BIOS and see if it has a virus check and switch it off. Could also try resetting ti factory setting in the BIOS.
Your really better to leave these things alone if you dont have the time or hardware to swap. You only end up with a bigger problem.

Good Luck.

Could be a ram issue. Try new memory or if you have two sticks in there already try taking one out or the other out to see if that helps. Also you may want to flash the bios.** No do not show the computer your willy**, flashing the bios is basically loading a new version of your bios over the version you have already.

Come here to post jokes, oh and to play the occasional frutie.

Hi and thanks for the reply. the original HDD loaded but would freeze when windows finished loading. I tried to install windows directly but it kept failing so decided to pop a new HDD in and try to install windows onto that, that didnt work too. So stuck the new HDD into another computer and installed win xp, vista and win7 and then tried it in the other pc. I then get the blue screen when I try to load windows. I get a screen asking what to boot into safemode etc I have tried all the options but the machine just goes to the blue screen. I have tried to update the bios that didnt work and I cant see that the bios has a AV.

I have no idea whats going on and I have spent 10's of hours on trying to fix this and its doing my head in.

Cheers ady for the link. What did you think of that program on D HD? Just a simple error like that brings down 3 planes. Just goes to show they are not always as safe as they make out.

this is why your getting the blue screen. the stop 0x0000005c error is hardware/driver issue.

it because you installed windows on another pc so the drivers are installed for that pc and not the one your actually using the hdd in.

try to format the hdd in a working pc as a slave device (check the top/bottom of the hdd for a jumper clip and set it to slave) then once its been formatted (do a full format not a quick format) then set it back to master. put it back into the pc you want to use the hdd in and install windows on to it then all drivers, if you dont have the driver disks then look at all the hardware inside the pc and and note down the serial numbers and run them in google to find the drivers for that device.

once you have done this and you still get a bsod its a hardware error. to find out what hardware is failing you would have to change components 1 by 1 (ie change one stick of ram turn pc on if bsod happens change other peice of ram (if there is one) then change graphics card turn pc on if bsod happens keep doing this until bsod stops showing.)

hope this helps you out.

Not saying you're wrong d0ug, but I took my hdd out of my old system with windows installed on it, put it in my new setup (making it the only hdd in it) and windows loaded fine, and automatically installed the new settings itself.

ps This was win7 ultimate i did this with, dunno if that makes any diff.

95% of pc's giving stop codes (bsod) are driver issues (wrong drivers installed for hardware) the other 5% are hardware faults, the driver issue is what i would suggest was the cause of his bsod. i could very well be wrong with the first part of the advice i gave but i would (in this case) continue with the fault find exercise i suggested to try & find the source of the bsod.

if at the end of the trail and error solution the bsod still happens then check the cpu ( i always leave this as the last thing to check as it could be knackered)

unless people do these things they'll wont learn anything.

I did this first. I used my pc to wipe the hdd and do a full format(not the quick one) and then put it back into the computer nothing happened so I bought a new HDD.

i have tried to do a step by step! It's only got a 1 gig ram so tried it with another 1 gig then with both no change, I took the GFX card out and tried to use the on-board GFX still the same I disconnected the DVD drive no change and also disconnected the 4 in 1 card reader and no change. It's just driving me mad as fook.

Thanks for the advice tho I will have another try at it tomorrow when I'm feeling a bit better,

one more thing i'd suggest to do is strip the pc down by removing everything (ram, dvd drive, gfx card, card reader, etc.) so that you have every component out of the tower including the mainboard and rebuild the whole pc also clean with a hoover (and the furry brush type connector) the dust from it and try a new hdd in it (not the one you have trouble with.) you may have a wire that has become disconnected.

my cousin a few months ago had built himself a tower unit and when he plugged in the connector for the power supply he hadn't put it on properly and got bsod.

it may solve your problem or not but theres no harm in trying it.

hope you get it sorted out soon.

Yeah , i was gonna suggest that myself , giving it a right good clean out .. there may be so much crap on the heatsink that the cpu is instantly overheating and shutting down.

Id be very catious however about using a hoover to do it..my m8 static shocked his £400 GFX from using a hoover..maybe he was just unlucky , 99 times out of 100 it would be ok.

Since then however ive always just used a small paintbrush with reasonably hard bristles to clean mine out .. safer that way i think or sometimes use a can of compressed air , although i have none left atm.

The BSOD your refering to could indicate a number of things as has already been suggested , bad driver , gubbed memory , faulty HD..the list goes on..without actually seeing it , its hard to make an accurate diagnosis.
Mmmmmm...Sandy ive 'ad her ye know. :)

I would have no idea on how to stick it back together lol. I spose I could take pictures of the motherboard with the wires connected. I just dont want to plug something into the wrong slot and boom it goes up in smoke.

it could be many things, but i put it down to memory. loadup the bios and find the default state. if its a newish board you may have overclocked the ram, not in error but windows wint like the timing (it happened to me, i installed a whole windows setup at pc7100 or 889mhz ddr2, but if i try pc8500 or 1066mhz then windows point blank refues to boot further than the logo screen)

so, default your systtem setting, ven try removing a ram strip and see what happens, then try the other.

Haha would love to m8. thing is Ive been paid £20 so far and I have spent over 15 hours on this and just can't be bothered. Just cod this guy cant be bothered to take it to a computer shop.

Right on the back of the hdd there is 4 slots one is a long pin type (like the end of a memory card)slot with 15 pins on it then next to that is a smaller slot with 7 pins on it which i connected a red cable going down to the motherboard that says sata 1. next to that is an empty small looking phone jack slot. Obv not a telephone jack but a very small one that looks like one. next to that is a slot that has 8 vertical pins and next to that is a 4 pin with the pins vertical. I had the red sata cable connected to the 2nd slot and a black cable connected to the first slot. The black cable looks like its from the psu and the cable also has connectors on it for the last 4 pin slot on the hdd. There is a sata 1 and sata 2 sata 3 and sata 4on the motherboard and the red cable is in the sata 1 slot. hope this helps.
