Just had a look at a few of these again to see if anything can be done.

Pull-A-Win (Concept) is writing to an unknown place and crashes shortly after. My guess is that its writing to something that would trigger an interrupt and not getting the interrupt, and falling over shortly after. The location is 0x840 Which could be something like a PIA (maybe Aux 3 PIA?), security, or something else like a RTC. If anyone can get a quick (clear) photo of the program card of one, it would probably answer the question and can be made to run.

Cherry Bingo can be made to run in Project Amber, the lamps will need to be fiddled with as they are quite flickery. This is also writing to an unknown area, which doesn't stop the game running, but could be writing to a hopper, or security. Security that could be fiddling with the lamps maybe. The sound appears to be either an unknown format, but it looks quite like a YMZ280B format which has had the lines swapped round a bit. I am investigating the sound using the sound tool. If I get anywhere with it, I will work on getting the rest of the game running.

Red Hot Reels Run Ok.

Clickity Click needs the Plasma Display.

Ok so Super Bear X...

This is a CHR issue.

They are using 3 bytes of the CHR to set up bits of the NEC chip. I can't yet work out what is going on because the sound does nothing in test mode.

What I do know is that the sound is attached to the empty AY8910 port (MOD 4). They are using CA2 as the reset bit and CB2 as the start bit (might have those the wrong way round) and the data going to the AY port is the sample number.

This is where it gets tricky. I can make the game not lock up when playing the streak. But to get the sounds right all 3 CHR bytes must be set correctly, and Coinworld to their credit weren't dumb. Because it would appear that the sound test does sweet FA until the CHR bytes are as expected.

Each byte is only a 6 bit value so thats a value that's between 0 and 63. 3 of those brings the possible combinations upto 250047 so its not an easy manual hack..

I believe 2 of the bytes are controlling when / how often to play a sound sample and the third byte is switching around the sample number in some way. I will keep trying but if anyone has a real super bear x machine, or even just the sound card, or even just the CHR it will make things many hundreds of times easier.

So we didn't get these ROMs dumped then?

Felt sure the SBX would be Super Bear X

Pull A Win Concept.

"

It's a standard barcrest mpu 4 program card. If I remember rightly it ran on the larger of the T shaped cards.

The only thing aux 3 would have been used for as far as I can remember was for running a large universal hopper with about 1000 2p or 10p coins in it.

There was also a pull handle on the side wired to a separate start switch

Can't remember if there was a pic protection on it as well but knowing concept I would say there was

Will try and find out more tomorrow"
