Had a sort of revalation today. By the middle of May I will be 18 years old, which is were the gambling world changes for me, I'l be eligable to go into the over 18s and lose some serious money on Bullion Bars and Rainbow Riches :D, which won't be happening.

Yes I live in Blackpool but the nearest arcades to me are about a 5 mile drive from my house. Which as of tomorrow i'l be barring myself.

So heres my advice to anyone who ever ends up like me, ive been in and out of arcades since I was 12, so its been a good six or so years and im finally waving bye bye to it after ive lost an esimated £1000s of pounds. Maybe in the £10k region, ive no idea and i WONT be looking into it!

You get so deep into this addiction, I plan all the stuff to do with the money I have, I go in the arcade and get this 'f*** it' attitude. Only to realise when you walk out skint, youve f***ed all your plans up!

So as of now Saturday the 3rd of March, Ive quit gambling well and f*****g truley, before I turn 18 and destroy my life, ive been through f*****g hell and back these past couple of years with other things and im at the end of the line now with it. Everything is getting better in my life and this is my last step to kick this disgusting habit ive been living with. No offence intended but take it from me! Just think of the stuff you can get with the money you waste? Yeah so whats a tenner a month gonna do in a rainbow riches? Quite a lot, that gets me the freedom of 50 miles on my bike? It gets me 10 things from the pound shop! But what if I waste it in a fruit machine? Youve got NOTHING to show for it!

Ive learnt the Hard way, so heed my warning!!
Obviously I wont be leaving FME :).... Ive got EPEE to wait for ;)

If only i'd of done this a post early it would be a good way to celebrate my 3000s post :)

Sincerely hope you succeed. It won't be easy, you can't even pop in for a pint without a fruity flashing away trying to tempt you.
My mate was like you, he'd put all his hard earned cash into the puggys, ending up in a foul mood when he lost, and never having anything of value. No car, none of the latest gadgets, and never could afford a nice holiday. He finally saw the light and it made a big impact on his quality of life. He now runs his own small business, plus a wife and kids to keep him focused.

Good luck.

Well done mate. You have made a truly stupendous and life changing decision today. Hope it all works out, and as you said you still have the emulators to play on if you get tempted.

i must of pissed at least 15k away on the stupid machines before i gave up.makes me sick to think about it.even when winning i was just putting it all back like a nob.

iv not wasted anything over a tenner on them in about 6 years now,i onlyplay them for fun now,not complusion ,i was so bad at one point i was eating 8pence beans for a daily meal and stealing off people to play. almost cost me my friends/family ,horrible thing adiction. .

I want you to truly succeed in this quest Cardie lad… it is a long, slippery slope to despair if you really let it take a hold - believe me!

You have your whole life ahead of you to look forward to, and if you can nip this in the bud now son, I promise you that your future will be so much more brighter.

You have admitted you have a ‘problem’ with gambling in the past - keep looking to your past, realise the mistakes you have made with it - and the road ahead will be so much easier to tread.

Keep us informed of your progress - and I always want it to be GOOD news - you have my best wishes and hopes that you succeed. :)

Well done Cardie for taking the first step , its never easy though..im afraid the temptation NEVER leaves you ... i can go months without playing the fruitys , then bang soon as i walk in , with the och ..ill just spend a tenner routine..before i know it ive made 3 or 4 trips to the ATM and im £80 down.

As im that bit older obv i have more responsibilties , bills to pay...family to feed etc , but if you can wean yourself away from them at your age and never go back to them , well good on you.

Its gonna be tough though man , real tough...and hopefully you can get through it and never go near a puggy ever again.

My loss when I had my addiction, was in the region of 50k!
And that started around your age Cardie.

I stopped myself on xmas eve of all days :err: ,almost 15yr ago now.Having just ploughed over £350 into a £15/30p PARTY TIME,with not one feature(for the few wins id managed to achieve).Something clicked in my head and said WTF are you doing.
I walked away with notes in my pocket and from that day my addiction stopped.I was gambling upto £2000 daily!
And as Daryl points out it is a vicious circle that all too often spirals wey out of control.

Good for you realising the problem ahead, before it spirals out of control.
I wish you well.

I part disagree with Todd-"temptation NEVER leaves you" I'm not saying that I don't play slots any more or any other form of gambling.I'd be a liar if I said that. But what I am now is in control. The slots once dictated to my life. Now if I play I play for pleasure and fun,and what I take to play I take to lose! And once ive lost its home time
And that the golden rule-Gamble what you can afford to lose and take it to lose,oh and keep ya cards of any description at home :nah:

the 1st hurdle is addmitting you,ve an addiction which you,ve gone over, thats the easy bit. most of us have done that one. The 2nd bit is the hardest, trying to keep off the bloody things which most of us don,t do me included. it,s a bit like wanting to give up smoking/drinking you,ve gotta have the will power and determination to do it. I for one like many others on here have tried time n time again to stop gambling only to "fall off the wagon" so to speak. It ain,t going to be easy for you so great respect to you for giving it a go and i hope you get over it,but if you don,t 1st time try and try again hopefully you,ll get there in the end. I wish you luck and sucess at least you,re stoppingbefore you get sucked into the BIG money gamblers £500ers etc before you reach 18yrs old. If you need a gamble play the emu,s on here to get your fix you won,t solve your addiction but at least it won,t cost you a pocket full of quids than the dond,s of today. the clubbers on here are a good challenge for jackpots goodluck

sorry cardie but somebody cannot just "quit" gambling overnight. ive been saying to myself i wont ever play machines again but always end up popping in to my local arcade with a fiver just to see what happens and the fiver always turns into a few twentys. you will always be drawn into playing the machines, even in the future when you think your past them.

It gets easier you will notice you can walk past an arcade without going in to play but something always will lurk deep down in your blood that makes you want to play them, just like myself and will want to give in to the temptation. i wish you luck in the future.

Cardie - Try and get a job with a fruit machine company - Once you start seeing machines day in day out that you can play for free your soon learn to hate the sight of them.

Plus as you have already started to fix and play with them im sure with some of the guys ive met in the trade you already out qualify them, lol.

I used to play fruits until i started working for Bell-fruit in 1997 - that soon changed how i felt about them.

Use those skills you have got and earn some money from them.

Goodluck and best wishes
Stu.
