just interested how much say a coral island or similar coastal arcade would make in profits each year, even better would be able to see some actual accounts if anybody has them or could get hold of them.
The question is then if you knew how much they were making out of your pocket would you still play the machines?

A Good seaside arcade makes around £97,000 to £180,000 per annum depending on size of the arcade and amount of machines within. the figure given is clear profit. also bare in mind the location of the arcade.

Hi All
The actual turnover of an arcade is proberly not known, this is an all cash operation and when the machines are emptyed the cash is normaly just removed in big cash bags to be taken to head office for a count and you can bet some of the cash gets lost (for tax reasons), I used to work nights at an all night filling station and when i was waiting for my bus home early one morning I witnessed the emptying team in action. Thay pull up in a big luton box van, 4 bouncer type guys with baseball bats get out and unlock back door of arcade, and within 10 mins thay have loaded about 20 cloth bags full of coin in the back of van and are off to the next one, so no time to read meters and take actual figures there then. Just incase your thinking this was a robbery this operation took place every week at about the same time and the van was done up in the operators logos.

when i used to work for bass many years go, they had a team of about 4 cash collectors + 1 security member to do all the emptying every week.all the cash was counted on site via a cash counter/sorter.and every machine had meter reading's taken and fed into a handheld computer. the cash used to be banked once a fornight via securicor.
the data in the handheld computer was then transfered to the main computer and can tell u every penny wether its profit or a loss right down to a T.

Hi
That would work as thay were only emptying say 4 or 5 machines in a pub, but the arcade i was talking about was a large in town arcade with 100 to 150 machines in there. When i worked for MECCA (pre Rank days)we used to empty our own machines, and the coins were counted via a onsite counter and all of the machines meters were read by two persons to varify correct readings.

On the same topic, does anyone know how much casinos earn from machines? Our casino never used to care for machine gamblers so I got the impression it isn't much!
