Typical British public, there >>>>MIGHT<<<< be a strike, and if there was it will be at least next week, so lets all panic buy petrol yayyy!
All petrol stations within 5 miles of my house are now empty, I went past morrisons on the way home and they were queing round a main round about 200 yards down the road. This morning they were queing past my house! Diesel at the garage near mine is now 149.9p (basically £1.50 a litre)! Petrol was £147.9 which is outrageous now, absaloutly rediculus, perfect timing for my bike to eat its own piston rings and ive had to do 200 miles running in a new engine!
Anyone else got any higher Fuel prices? Empty Stations? Were using nearly £150 a week in fuel now to run a building contracters bussiness for 2 people! Not to mention other cars and bikes we have! Last year it was around £70 which even then was expensive!
Funny how truckers will go on strike about pay and pensions etc and I dont blame them? But what about this disgusting tax on fuel? As we know petrol itself is cheap, but tax is around 70% on fuel now! Has this country lost its back bone or what? 8 Years ago (ish) when fuel went over £1 a litre they were striking but now its creeping up to £1.50 were just carrying on as if its normal!!!

The price of fuel ANYWHERE else on this planet is completely and utterly irrelevant, and to compare what we pay in this country to any other is stupidity. Fuel is always going to be taxed highly and the price is only going one way im afraid so get used to it.. The possible strike has nothing to do with fuel prices whatsoever and is about working conditions and health and safety conditions for tanker drivers. Well this is the story we are given anyway, im sure its just more bullshit from the government fear factor machine, but thats another topic alltogether.... Think of our country as your average household.. We need a certain amount of money each and every week to get by and pay the bills.. At home this will be food and electricity etc etc... For our government its, the NHS, policing, keeping streets clean etc etc... This money comes from our taxes, be they on our wages or fuel of goods and services... Fine slash fuel duty and sell it for 50p a litre, then put the basic rate of income tax up to 40% or scrap the NHS or such other lunatic sceme.. VERY little of the tax goes on amounts "wasted" by governments.. So its hard to put all the blame on politicians, although the last labour government handed out benefits like sweets and creaed ridiculous jobs in local government that didnt really exist to keep us all dosile.. Our recent ancestors have also had times too easy and left the current generation in an abysmal state of debt.. Im "lucky" enough to have travelled a good few places in this world and believe you me we are lucky to live in the UK. As criticised as it is, the health service is still the envy of the world. We have relitively high employment.. If you want to do something in your life you are free to do or say it.. These rights we class as basic are not available a lot of places in the world and we should be thankful for them.. Also bear in mind that even with the "high taxes" we are paying now we, as a country, are still borrowing billions upon billions of pounds annually just to make ends meet so to say.. Time to stop moaning and get on with it..
By the way, i have my own small business and all my work is in london, my fuel bill is never below £200 a week, im not necessarily happy about it but obviously as its for business i need it and it doesnt cost that to me.. >>>> £200 offset VAT element reduces this to >>> £165 >>> This is obviously an expense so will come off any profit and hence not pay the 20% tax on this also >>>> approximately £138... Not so bad now you see!!!

Your a bit like the government you Don,t care how high the fuel rises cause it ain,t coming out of your own pocket/wages and you,re like my bosses probably earning far more than your average worker on £15000 before tax not the average 26k as they say in the papers, Fair enough you,ve probably earnt your salary as you run a small company, but you don,t actually pay for the fuel (comes under expensive,s) like road tax etc just the same as the government calls it. I only earn the 15k before tax and once all the bills are paid I,m left with hardly anything so you think being taxed on the wages you earn at approx 23%, then taxed 20% on the food you buy, then taxed another est 10% per week on council tax, taxed for the car we drive if we can afford a small one unlike YOU probably and finally we,re taxed wait for it. 63%. And rising in august for the fuel we use is fair I don,t think so. The dole people had a 5.5% increase whilst us ordinary workers had a pay freeze and what small benefit,s cut or giving a huge bill to pay back is that fair No. As for The NHS it can,t afford to keep running for free because of all the foreigners coming in to this country and using this countries resources sucking us dry so maybe that's why this governments now privatising it along with the post office or are they trying to "make a quick buck" like with the fuel you decide the more the fuel rises the more things cost to deliver prices on everything rises too.Can Your how long company survive this will you still be happy with it then when you,ve shut down cause of costs?

the government HAS to get its money from somewhere, petrol, ciggs alchol and of course gambling. if it doesnt come from somewhere (arguably the decline in cigarette sales) then petrol and alcohol it is.

Look we all were part of the democracy that voted in the party who stated clearly in their manifesto the starting odf the fuel price escilator.. We all knew this was coming i cant see why anyone is shocked... I dont have much money at all really, just like to work for myself, have done for the last 14 years... The year before last i almost went under.. A large firm i subcontract for often went into receivership owing my business £21,000... I was literally down on my arse and tried to get help from the government, none was forthcoming at all.. It was then i really started looking into all of the scenarios closely... Take a look for yourself the figures are available for all to read and interpret the way the choose.... There is NO massive problem with imigrants and benefits in this country.. NO WORSE than any other in the EU.. Its just the usual sterotypical scapegoat for everyone,, Someone said on the today programme the other day that if the total of benefits paid to the asylum seekers that were granted stay in the country over the last 5 years was shared between the population, we would end up with about £35 a year!!! Whoop de doo!!!! Lifes a shithouse at times and we need to make a future for our children or its game over for them...

No problem with immigration is that why there,s record youth unemployment. I,m not saying they don,t work hard for there money the ones that do work. But a few examples, my local kfc in the outskirts of gloucester about a dozen people working there at any one time not one of them english, go back 20yrs to the mid 90,s say takeaways, half the convience stores, garages, taxi firm,s bus drivers the list goes on mainly ran by english people not no more even the pubs are being bought out I used to work in a chippy bet I couldn,t get a job in one now. We,ve got to employ a number of oversea,s workers cause of human rights etc but how many english people do you see working in indian takeaways or foreign bought shops etc.NONE!!! The Nhs is under immense strain cause of immigration the schools are at full capacity because of immigration and gonna get worse for future generations, and as we,re seeing on our small island we,ve no water not because of low rainfall its cause we,re overcrowded no room some parts of britain English is a 2nd language No problems with immigration I don,t think so!

in a nutshell, NOBODY knows the TRUE figures for immigrants!! but i bet you a pound to your penny, that it is far worse than anyone could ever have predicted. + it is NOT the same worldwide........ i live in france + if i dont work i get nothing!!!! no unemployment benefit, no house, no car, no hospital care!!!! etc etc when we arrived here (not working) my mrs was in hospital for 2 nights, simple stomach bug, no operations or f*** all --------- just observation + NO FOOD!!!!!!! we get a bill for 1600euros!!!! this benefits the country 2 ways + would do exactly the same for the uk.
1) it keeps foreigners out - or they are welcome but must pay into the system like everyone else
2) it also creates a massive surplus of monies, which inturn buys the best equipment + creates extra funds for what ever the government fancy???
i have just had 2 operations here, i had a single bedroom with complete en suite, it was huge!!!! spotlessly clean etc etc
maybe the uk needs to have a system like this that CAN NOT GET DRAINED???? the uk provides all that shit free then robs joe public to pay for it in other ways..
just sayin!

Im not a driver anymore thank fook , had to relinquish my license and car due to ill health , we have a family car but my missus is the only one who drives.
Kinda glad in a way , because there is no way we would be able to keep on 2 cars due to the ever rising cost of petrol/diesel.
When we first got that car about 4 years ago , cost to fill the tank ? £50-55 , now ? £75-80 .. its f***in shocking the way we get shafted every which way in the UK ..when i was in USA cost to fill a 2L Merc ? $25 ... whats that all about.
Went to buy my fags today as well ... £6.85 .. WTF man !! nearly 7 quid for a packet of fags ? .. i know the planned strike by the tanker drivers isnt about the cost of fuel...but they ought to carry out similar actions that they did last time.
No wonder no-one can afford to do anything else these days.

Interesting topic!
All petrol stations in my local area have now no fuel untill Mon/Tue earliest!!! WTF
If the strikes take place two things will happen.
Aside the country grounding pretty much to a halt!
Diesel/petrol will rise well above the inflated prices they currently stand at.
And yet we invade all the oil rich countries(with little budget to do so and an armed force that is becoming less armed by the hour!) and we are informed that this will ease preasure at home,in terms of costs we incurr.Including fuel.
And yet everything has increased in price and continues to do so.
Getting back to the post. And im sure this was mentioned in a point above.
It's comin to the end of the financial year,so hence scare monger the nation into creating a drought at the petrol pump-and kerching for the government
I'm not a car fan and personaly I real hope in time the car becomes a luxury item whereby the majority of the world can't afford the tin boxes!
Rant over-That said the strike will only make the current recession we are in a whole lot worse.
And I may not love the car but I am v.dependent upon public transport, for my job.
And if a strike did take place it would affect everyone of us,so I prey that a resolution happens.

Went to the bank last night about 1am and there was still a long line of about 15 cars waiting to get into the local petrol station. I can't understand why they are acting like this as there has to be at least 7 days notice if they intend to take strike action so they can do all their panic buying then. 4 of the other petrol stations was only selling the high grade fuel thats mega expensive and people are buying it LOOOOOOOOOL

Yeah, and I ended up doing the same thing (although probably not at the same station as RH saw). Not that I was panic buying, I just needed fuel and the only place I could get any was on an M4 service station. They only had premium so I paid £1.54 a litre for it. Nice. Still at least I had enough fuel to do my work but at nearly £80 it's a tad expensive. And now... There's no strike anyway so it was completely pointless.
On another note, they had a petrol tanker driver on and he was basically saying they had no idea what this strike was all about in the first place. Certainly he said they'd no issues on health and safety training and went on at great length explaining how good it was. Seems to me it's just the Unite union causing trouble again. Great for their leadership I'm sure, but not for anyone else...
