hiya all
having a big problem with my acer aspire 5733
its only 2 months old and i used it yesterday with no problems and shut it down as normal only today i go to turn it on and it wont boot at all.
it turns on and the fan kicks in but then i hear a click noise from inside where the hard drive is
then it either turns off completly or continues to run but nothing happens just a blank screen
i havent dropped or damaged it at all and i havent installed any new software or hardware and i have mcafee running on it so i dont think its a virus.
does anyone know what the problem might be as i dont know why it would be a hdd problem as its only 2 month old and it hasnt been used alot
pls help thanks

I would take it back and ask for a replacement. I had 4 acer laptops before i got an upgrade as the one i had got had a fault with it when an external monitor was plugged in. It would BSOD and flicker on the screen and have random crashes. The guy was sceptical so as he had on one show so he plugged it in and not even 10 minutes and it had BSOD so I got a decent larger better faster laptop for the same price as it had just dropped £200 from £699 to £499 :-) happy days

Fk Littlewoods , just quote the Sale of Goods act 1979 , if the laptop is only 2 months old and the HD is gubbed the item is of unsatisfactory quality and you are entitled to a replacement or refund.
Dont take thier crap , stand up for your rights and dont get messed about from them..of course they will not want anything to do with it , but they are under obligation to deal with it.

The chance of the issue being with the hard drive is slim mate after 2 months. Had acers for long time and never had this issue, and if it was the hard drive I'd be very surprised. I think you may be looking at a motherboard problem and if that's the case your f**. I have also had a laptop with littlewoods and yes they are a pain in the ars as they don't even know the specs of what they are selling so you have to be careful buying from them. I would just threaten them with contacting the financial ombudsman if you had the laptop on a weekly pay scheme.

As you have had it 30 days or more the warranty lies with Acer, Not Littlewoods. Acer will repair it for free.
Its not neccessarilly the HDD that's faulty though. It sounds like it but it could also be a faulty hdd controller on the mobo which is breaking the drive in the first place.
If its easy to get to try and boot the machine without the hdd in. It should at least show the boot screen and complain no hdd is installed. If it doesnt then the mobo is f**ked.

its the hdd thats causing the constant reboot or hanging at a black screen the clicking noise is the giveaway to this problem the reboot is happening because of a BSOD as windows is unable to load up due to a faulty hdd.
take the hdd and replace with a new drive and a fresh installation of windows. if you have a pc tower unit with a sata connection on the motherboard plug it in and see if it is displayed in "mycomputer" if it shows up then the hdd is fine and not broken and the clicking noise you got on your laptop would be the laptop restarting.
if you can plug it into a pc and you hear the clicking noise and it dosnt show up in "mycomputer" then is knackered.
the general thing with hdd's is that if theres a clicking noise its the arm inside the hdd that isnt able to move across the metal disk that holds all your data. and therefore is faulty.
if youve only had the hdd a few weeks and have not opened anything other than the lid & dvd drive than it should be replaced by the person/company that sold you the item in the first instance, if they refuse point blank to do anything to solve your problem with the item then ask to speak to the area manager if he/she then still refuses to do anything about it contact watchdog and they will sort it out. (especally if its littlewoods catalogue).
