God the nights are fair drawing in aren't they?
The TV is rubbish yet again so it got me thinking about my favourite fruities of all time. Not necessarily because I won loads of dosh but because I actually enjoyed (yes, I did once) playing them.
Well I'll get the ball rolling. Here's my top 5 and why.
1: Silver Shadow - Barcrest
I just loved this machine when it came out. Good sound quality for it's time and the skill chance was dead easy. Ahead of it's time and available to download on this site.
2: Supatrack - JPM
Ahhh....the days of Melon Meters and Lucky 7's. Wasn't it a thrill when you got the Nudge on and on feature? Unfortunately....never won much of this one.
3: Hi-Rise - Barcrest
One of the first 20p a go ones I ever played. Always seemed to win by taking the skill feature halfway up the board. Repeated a hell of a lot too.
4: Cash Counter - Barcrest
Alright!!! So skill chances are high in my agenda but I used to be good at them before I got old and the machines started cheating. The secret to ripping this baby was to collect any skill feature. Hopefully you would land on Skill Nudges and then you would get the repeater. When it was good....it was good. Available for download on this site.
5: Fairground - JPM

Oh,yes! Was the proud owner of this machine for 28 months, but got rid of it becasue i got bored of it tbh. Key to this was to skill stop the fortune teller on ur first shot, it never killed you, and more often than not gave you a late night pass. Then on test your strenght you picked skill stop (not go to big wheel, as it liked to slip to lose) and stopped the lamp 2 or four spaces away from the fortune teller (£2 or Duck shoot if i remember (mwack mwack)). If it landed on fortune teller and gave you spin an even number to continue you could just hold the button down if the reel was showing an even number - easy win every time. Boy i loved that machine. btw, the Sound ROM works in JPeMu - thoguh the feature music appears to run at half speed :S. but there you go, thot id share that with you.

My top five are:
1) Test Pilot (2p fruitie)
2) Always Eight (again another great 2p fruitie)
3) Only fools and horses (Come on rodney!)
4) Fruit Cracker (same as you wubbs - what a class machine. I am currently working on a DX of this at present. There was one arcade in Yarmouth that had this machine so I went to get some pic's, however it was no longer there, therefore im redrawing the DX currently hosted on this site - Im still desperately in need of some artwork if anyone can assist!)
5) And last but no means least cops and robbers.

Cheers for the memories of Fairground DD....brings it all back...Wish I'd known about the Strength feature....I took Big Wheel every time....a ha ha!! I kinda remember the Fortune Teller thing but it took me a few hundred quid I reckon for it to drop the penny.... :-?
Still a great machine tho'.....hope it will be emulated someday.

Cheers Warnez cos I never knew Fruit Cracker had been emulated! How did I miss that! What I loved abut Fruit Cracker is that very rarely the jackpot would hold! What a bonus! I remember a 10p version of it too.

My fav's are
1. Club Psycho Cash Beast
What a machine, how many club machines have IM mods. Great playability, good features..what more can i say?
2. Club Casino Crazy
Don't get me wrong this machine could be a bitch, but out of no-where you could get extralife all the bonus balls and then it was just a matter of 30 winspins or JP.
3. Cash on The Nile
The first club machine I ever played, could be a little boring a times but i love the fact you can gamble a win hi/lo after collecting.
4. Red hot Sixes
This is fairly new and I believe is similar to grandslam. It is a must to have an autospin button though, it takes 20 minutes of pressing the roll button for JP!
5. Club Temple of Treasure
No bonuses = JP. Easy peasy, plus great playability

1. Sonic the hedgehog
2. Casino Crazy
3. Pinball Wizard
4. Homer's Meltdown
5. G-Force
Was "Fairground" the machine that instead of a high-low reel had an actual dice in a plastic container which would mechanically flip itself?
How did that work?!! And was it just as fixed as a normal high-low gamble?

It did have a real dice, in the reel, but - the reel came with 6 die. Each dice was showing a number of dots, and never changed. The reel had six dice, each showing 1-6 and spun around. The die never changed the number they were set at, but the reel moved - that's how it worked, not as technical or as fancy as you might think. lol.

Ha ha, i bet it slipped a fiar few times to lose lol. (not always of course, but wasn't always true skill when you had that late night pass lurking. lol. The carousel feature was sneaky, if you were unluck, you would stop the win spin on the 'win line' of two grapes and a cherry = £0. lol, first time it happened to me i thot it broken the thing, oh and the reels liked to slip a little at that too. So they'd be out of line, confusing as hell. (or was that just mine? lol). But its the only machine ive ever known that you could win nothing from a win spin. Bah.
Yes, Emu authors, system 5 emu plz plz plz. Fairground, (complete with outrageously loud dice reel rattling (thank f*** it stayed at 3 during normal play or i'd be deaf!)) Hagar the Horrible, and Popeye. (and club Fairground of course). mmmmmm, i like the thought of that lot.

Twilight zone WAS in an arcade in Irvine Scotland last time i looked ( 5p £3 jp ) Nice to see machine that old still active.
Aladdins cave's clone was called Masterspy ( 2p £1.50 jp ) hours of fun there.
Swopshop was one of the Open the box/play it again type clones.BIG streaks were not uncommon. The first one i play the bank limit went right upto £99 ! Not by me though i may add.
HERES A PIC

Almost forgot about Fairground,
This was the one with the emptier via the coconut shy feature, well there is one nearby me set to 5p play £4 jp.Virtually impossible to empty this one though as its set to 70% and isnt worth the five hours wait !
That bloody dice nearly always fecked up on me( it just dissapeared sometimes )

Yes the dice did like to 'slip' - to be nice to the thing, i think it just liked to hide, and there was no way you could guess the number, all you had to go by was a sheet of red plastic. Did they rechip Fairground to remove the emptier, i remembered trying it on 10p £6 and it never worked.

Seeing as how I'm only 18, don't expect anything from before 1995!
1) Monty Pythons Flying Circus [one of the few machines I've found to be damn entertaining, even on £5/10p!!]. Excellent sampled sound, quite a frequent IM, 'fair' knockouts [i.e NOT always the bottom wins available], pretty fair on lining up Seventh Heaven as well!
2) Spiker the Biker [because hes about 2m away and if I don't list it here it'll break down!! - plus, I always liked it in pubs!]. I like the idea of a Superboard that can't kill you, and it used to respond well to forcing. Plus I liked the theme, and it was never cloned, which must be a good sign!
3) Red X / Nitro / Hypalinx / any other clones, although these are the only ones I've played. Quite a basic method to playing them, nice fast gameplay, and plenty of features, with red choices, and 3 Xs to keep you entertained - plus the old emptier [I never fully emptied one, but I believe it was possible :S]
4) Crazy Fruits - I only list this one because of the theme and sounds e.t.c, IMHO it plays like crap on the majority of occasions but at 5p a go you get plenty of play for your money! Plus there was that emptier - I was never brave enough to try it, but it was the £300 win from a £5 JP machine one. I guess it could be possible - I once took £13 from Stag Nite [another BFM?, Pinball Wizard clone], only for it to move the win 1 place to the right and pay out £1.30 :S
5) This is probably going to sound like a mad choice, but theres a machine in Bridlington, I believe it to be an MDM machine, which was 2p with a £3 JP, possibly called 'Buckaroo'. All things considered, gameplay was reasonable [on 2p it'll always be a bit flat], but more importantly, £5 gave a good 30 mins play. That alone makes it my 5th place. Sounds and stuff were good enough. Only problem I had was it had a 2p hopper, and when it tried the £1 hopper to pay out my JP and found nothing [odd as I was playing with £1 coins!], it dumps a £3.60ish bank of 2ps!

496) Jackpot Junction - I like these BFMs as much as I like Big Cheese by Barcrest. No offense, but 16 nudges on machines I like is normally a good fiver, NOT £1.20. Oh, also blocking the vast majority of boards at £2, giving 3 ? squares in a row, and loads of other crap. I hope the designers are pleased with themselves!!!
497) Stir Crazy - Saw a friend put £97 in with no more than £3 offered at any point. I thought the card reel was going to fall off [How could a card mech make so much bloody noise!!!]. Why why why was that machine ever released?!
498) Pie Factory - controversial one this. I know loads of people like these machines, but its the only machine I lost £75 in 2 nights in a row, around the back. That 'method' left them totally dead, for that whole £150 it never ONCE offered more than £2 on the board. Inexcuasable, hence 498th place . Infact, I'll include all other Vivids here. It wouldn't be fair to have them take up the bottom 3 places
499) Tetris, I think it was Mazooma. Never had any luck on it. I mean, I had Pie Factory go Red on several occasions, but never got ANYTHING out of damn Tetris. I've had people telling me it was the best machine ever made - I know people on here may well say that its amazing, but I hated it. Interesting sound effects though. Thats all that keeps it from number 500
500) Difficult choice this one, but I'm going to plump for £5 JP Multiplayer Monopoly by Mazooma. I would have chosen Party Time, but as I've never played one it wouldnt be fair of me to judge it. All I know is that I played £50 through a £5 JP machine, and had about £7 in the bank, I then put that £7 in on Autoplay, and got a JP which held for £10. Then it sucked that straight back. I mean, what was the point of the bloody top board?! I would have thought that £50 into £5 would have given the top board. Nope, always one nudge away. Inexcusable. Nothing at all can redeem that machine. There may be FAR worse machines around, but, as I said above, I am only 18 and haven't got loads of experience on them, but thats the worst I have played!
Quick disclaimer - I'm sorry that the 3 of the bottom 4 machines machines are Mazoomas, but I think their modern machines are better [although I don't play them anymore anyway ].
TBH the machines I've classed as my Top / Bottom 5 could be shuffled about, that is, I'm not sure about their positions in the top / bottom 5, but they are among the best / worst 5 I've played. Also, I bet people will reply and say 'But you didn't play such and such machine properly, thats why you hate it but I ownz it and I take out £97 a night by sitting on peoples shoulders blowing smoke into their faces'...and thats fine. People are entitled to their opinions, feel free to comment, but try not to say 'Its amazing because I played it once for 10 seconds and got £100 out' or something similar. A good machine shouldn't play happily for one night of the year.
Oh, and sorry about the long post, but I'm bored!!

Good replies folks...just thought I'd drop this link in here. Unfortunately I don't have room for any fruities in my home but seeing as how it's on my top 5 list....maybe someone will buy this.
