Right, we all know the amount in the hoppers make very little difference to winning on machines. But when full, as we know it's dropping into the bottom making it profit, correct?
Well, why is it some new machines have a fake backing feature? surely it's not even considered a gamble then since you're only giving them money? It's not being taken into the hoppers, meaning it's profit for them, leaving the machines a little more empty.
If you play a machine that's backing, it's a way to draw people in, since they think it's full, which means a chance of jackots/streaks (at least the myth goes) but if it's dropping when the hoppers aren't full, isn't that illegal since you're not getting the full odds? They can take however much they want, since the machine can only have £30 in the hopper (enough to cover a £25) and take everything else as profit? Not really giving a fair chance is it?
Prove me wrong by all means, but this does seem a little off putting to me.
A friend of mine was down the local, put £40 through a machine to get a jackpot. All down the back. Took the £25 out, and it was instantly backing again. It doesn't replenish what's been taken.
Is that anywhere near correct?

to my knowledge there are no machines that use a fake backing system.
we have over 1500 machines out on site and not one does this.
it may be a fault with the coin mech(i had one the other day which wasn't diverting any coins into the hopper)
another thing it could be is a machine with more than one hopper.
both hoppers are full when the machine has been set up to play but will only divert coins back into the hoppers once one has emptied compleatly.

All Red Gaming machines [even when set on £5 JP!] 'fake back'.
EDIT - more stuff added ]
Backing is not there to aid the player in anyway, it is simply the coin sorter diverting £1 coins into a secure cashbox when the hopper is full. In the case of the Red Gamings, they normally only 'fake back' for £5 at a time. Also, backing is not a sign that a machine is guarenteed to play any better

What ever gave you the impression that fruit machines were fair?

Every single Red Gaming machine made after Aftershock does this fake backing thing..... only if there is more than £75 in the hopper though.....
I'll bet you a tenner it's had more than a 1000 people thinking it IS actually full of coins when its quite clearly not !
If only refill keys worked on these......
N.b, Never came across a Maygay that does this yet.

Red Gaming machines really need to be on 78% [and if possible more] to offer a decent game. On ones with 5 winlines, such as Fruits U Sir, I'd recommend you play them on 20p / 3 winlines. Also, they have pretty broad 'dead play' periods, £10 without a hold followed by a Red feature for say £15 is common.

dont forget, in addition to fake backing, there is also a top up switch which makes the machine think hopper is full. Even when machines are floated via the refill, this will also be backing even though the machine may have recently paid out a large streak

i had a problem with my machine when it started diverting coins into the cash box when it weren't full. :?
This was due to a faulty coin acceptor.
You may find that the arcade owners take these out to make sure they don't lose a certain ammount of money per day, due to unchiopped machines, that are emptied by cheats.
Then the arcade owners just top it up with say £30 when empty or at the end of the day, whichever comes first. 8-)
I can take out the divertor with great ease. You could find this is what they are doingxc.

There are lots of faults particularly on the red gaming machines associated with fake backing, usually on the first software version, its a major pain in the arse and gives no real benefit to anyone at all

Faults? Tricking punters into thinking a machine is full is a fault?
I don't care anyway, seeing as how I don't play the bastards anymore, but it CAN'T be a fault when a machine sends EXACTLY £5 into the cashbox as long as the hopper contains <=£120 and >= £50.
I think that £50 was the cutoff point, could have been higher, say £75, but was more than £5

24 Carat Gold should not fake back.
It has a tendency to 'hold' coins back from the box.
Sometimes it'll be in attract and you'll here 'clunk...tttshshh' as the odd trapped coin frees itself and shoots off into the box.
As for Red's and fake backing. Hmmmmm. Yes. They do. It has been modified on their more recent releases.

You misunderstand, the backing itself is not a fault - thats programmed into the machine, there are various other faults however such as the hopper running empty and the ram becoming corrupt associated with backing built into the software.
On the later versions of software, red and others apparently decided that backing was not a good idea and have disabled it on certain machines. Odd eh?
