Hey guys..

1st off just like to say that i love this site...
i have managed to dl a shed load of diff emu's & layouts to play.. it's immense the libary on here.. thank you to all that have contibuted . ;) keep em coming.. the newer the titles the better..

2ndly wanted to know if the emu's act like the real machine if you turn them off.??

eg... if i have been playing corrie rinsed it for 4 pots & then collected all the money out of it.... does the machine hold that state if i swicth games.. or do i have to save state each time..

Guess would have been shorter to ask.. does the layout & rom revert back to how it was before i got it each time i turn it on??

like i said i'm relatively new to this & would also like some pointers on how the emu's work within them selves.

It's all good being able to load up the games & play them but what else can you do in the back ground?? ie what do all the dip switches do.. (i have worked out how to adjust the main speed for more realistic play)
but theres so much to .. say the mame emu it's mindboggling..

Any help would be great.

thanks guys happy gambling.

Plenty of people, including many who don't post here any more (or who don't release layouts any more), have released stuff over the years, and unfortunately many have come and gone :(

It's always nice to get some thanks though, even though I've only released a couple of things (under several different names :p) :D

Do bear in mind though - MFME as it stands can only emulate machines up to about 2004 (apart from very rare circumstances). Basically, if it's a modern machine and can be emulated, it almost certainly has been done. Much of the focus now seems to have shifted to acquiring older machines, and the artwork and ROMs for them :)

Yes, the emulators (MFME / JPeMu / BFeMulator and AMBER) should all save the playing state when you exit. As well as the ROMs on a machine (which are READ ONLY MEMORY and store the game program, as well as sound effects, music e.t.c.), there is also a battery backup and a RAM chip. The ROM doesn't change at all, it is written to in the factory, and stays that way unless you wipe and rewrite the chip from scratch.

The emulators, rather than relying on batteries like the original machines, save the RAM to your hard drive, on MFME the file will end in .RAM and will be in the same folder as the game ROMs and layout files :)

The DIP switches emulate the DIP switches in the physical machine. They are normally used for changing stake and prize amounts (ON CLUB MACHINES MAINLY), and for changing specific settings on the original machine - things like auto-payout, rather than saving wins to a bank. They aren't really relevant to many emulator users, because most of the machines are released in a fully playable state, with decent settings.

Same with most other settings - hopper types, sounds, e.t.c. - these will have been set when the layout was first designed, so they are already the correct settings for the machine. If you change them, the layout may stop working until you change them back.

Thank you for your reply..

Re the newer machines i thought as much as obv the powers that be dont want ppl to be able to emulate these and learn how the games run.

I have noticed though that some new machines are using the new mpu6 software & am hoping that some genius ;) will soon emulate this but then that being said having learnt how most of the roms come about (ie through a dump from the machine) this may not be the case for many years.

again love the site big ups to all who contribute. :)

Before MPU6 we would probably be more likely to see the remainder of the MPU5's which don't play on the current emulator and the remaining scorp 4 that also do not. Also it won't be on the current emulators (MFME) as that is now privately developed for a select few. We will have to wait until either MAME does it, or Guitar adds them to his Amber emulator.

Welcome to FME. Enjoy yourself, be active and get involved.

There is no reason whatsoever for MPU6 to be worked on at the moment. It's only applicable to £70 jackpot machines, most of which are pretty dreadful, and given that Barcrest are pulling out of the reel-based market, it hardly seems worth emulating a new hardware for such a small amount of machines :)

Having said that, if someone did want to make an MPU6 emulator, I'd use it. Just bear in mind, the perceived idea behind fruit machine emulation is the preservation of machines which you no longer find in the wild. That's not why the emulator first came out, but it is the direction things have taken, and it makes more sense.

If you want a £70 MPU6 machine, you can always buy one - they are always up for sale and tend to be quite cheap, especially when compared to similarly aged Deal or No Deal machines :)

As has been said above - before MPU6 (and Scorpion 5), I'd like to see the remainder of MPU5 (especially Red Gaming ROMs!!), Scorpion 4, and also I'd love to see Electrocoin and Astra but can't see that happening for a while :)
