Sounds like the battery has gone, and probably leaked.

Alarm on power up which clears after a few attempts sounds like the battery was flat.

Flat batteries are not happy batteries and tend to leak.

If it then starts not powering up at all it could be the power pack, but knowing it was stored out of use for a while (hence the flat battery), probably means the battery has leaked causing damage to the mpu.

I have a spare mpu if you need one. DONT power it up before you check the board, if the board looks fine (no leaky battery or green fur everywhere). If you power up a board with bad corrosion it can cause even more issues.

It could be other things too, but the signs are there that all is not well battery wise.

Check fuses in the power pack too, and the plug.

If it is battery damaged post a photo of the affected area, MPU4's are robust and quite fixable if the leak hasn't gone absolutely everywhere.

Take some decent hi-res photo's of the board around the battery area and we can tell you if any damage has been done. Hopefully you'll be lucky and just have to change the battery. :)

Pics from yellabelly as he cant post pics until he has enough posts.

It's hard to see the battery damaged area clearly, but there looks to be a fair amount of reflection from the legs of nearby components which is a good sign.
