Today i saw this nice samsung mobile phone touch screen going for a nice £4.50 (plus £2.70 postage), It had 5 bids upon it and with just 3 hours to go before its finally sold i made the bid to £4.90 but when i submitted it i get a message saying that ive been outbid, please enter a higher bid than £5.20, so i submitted a new bid of £5.30.
Again i get a message saying ive been outbid and to please enter a new bid of higher than £5.50.
This then went on about 4 times each time submitting a newer bid and each time getting this 'ive been outbid' message. After it gets on to £8 i give up as i felt i was being conned by something automated.
Hope somebody can help me here as not used to buying on ebay but is this the seller using illegal software to make it set up to a certain high bid designed to try and rip you off? I am furious i never got this phone.
thanks

no its not Illegal, it means someone has placed a max bid so each time you bid your amount is under there max bid

This.
Basically the other person coulda put in their highest bid of £10, so any bid you make under that is automatically outbid upto a tenner.
