Hmmm......Madhouse... should be good :)

Anyway, have you tried http://www.identifont.com/ ?

It can [hopefully] find the font, if you answer some questions based on the font from the picture. I had a go, but the closest I got was ' Orlando ' , which would possibly be usable but not an exact match. As long as you have a decent, blown up [i.e flyer] image you can answer the questions from, you should get good results :)

*helpful hint*

If you read his first post, he wanted to know either

a) A Pic [or photo, e.t.c.] of a similar machine from which the £10 JP part of the win panel can be obtained,
B) Which font Barcrest used on the win panel for the JP, or
c) Which font would be a VERY GOOD match :)

It'll do - it's about the machine, not the font :)

'It'll do' is the totally wrong attitude to take Barcrest. If we all had this attitude when layout creating, we'd have layouts that don't resemble the machine they are supposed to be.

Layout designing is all about recreating a fruit machine. Recreating as near as damn possible. I'm not trying to be hard here fellas as that certainly isn't my intention. But I must point out that simply substituting part of the graphics with something else with a 'that'll do' attitude shows that even layout designers aren't too bothered with authenticity.

Is a redraw of the desired bits out of the question?

Here. I've found this font. It matches the font your after with some 90% accuracy.

Don't give in so easily lads. If you're gonna create a layout, create a layout that doesn't leave any excuse or reason for someone else to re-do it 3 months down the line. Aim to create the 'definitive' layout every time.

Just advice lads. Nothing else. Just the 'It'll do' statement felt like a slap in the chops here.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that this was the first layout to feature incorrect fonts.

I also forgot that classic layouts exist, which use none of the original fonts, or that perhaps - just perhaps, not all of us are capable of drawing.

I am fine when it comes to manipulation, but haven't a clue of
how to draw.

I also totally forgot that most of these machines that I have seen in arcades have decals made in photoshop from other machines, hence perhaps it it authentic to have incorrect fonts?

If that means that I don't care about FME, fine - take that attitude.

Noooo! You're missing the point. I didn't say you or anyone else didn't care about FME. Come on mate. You should know that I'm the last person to stir any badness upon this scene.

What I'm trying to say is this.....

My last layout, as an example. SuperBREAKOUT. I know I've had more than 1 shot at it but I believe it's my experience as a layout creator that has caused the layout to be redone. Now take this latest release. It took about 4 hours of tedious cut n paste just to create the main feature board. That feature board had been completed twice at a cost of around 6 to 10 hours per method. I kept on at it until I got it right. Or as right as my mere talents could manage. What I'm saying is if I'd have gone to all the trouble of doing that, and I couldn't find the correct font, I would have drawn, got someone to draw, cleaned up the original, manipulated the original but never settled for anything 'that'll do' just for the sake of it.

You're reply makes me feel like you took offence. That most definately wasn't my intention. Again, all I'm saying is why go to the lengths to make a layout and then short cahnge yourself by cutting a corner with such disregard.

Now if I posted a reply to a release thread 'Not a bad layout but It'll do', then I deserve a wet kipper around the chops. You made your comment as if thats all the public deserve. Please mate, I'm not dissing anyone here. I can sit and say nothing, or I can speak my mind and it may or may not be taken on board as constructive criticism. After all, thats all it is. I'm sure that you, just like me, listen to constructive criticism. Wether that criticism is to be taken on board or not is another thing. But I speak my mind. Just as when I say a layout is good, it should be judged that I mean that and I'm not trying to make someone happy.

Hope you understand where I'm coming from mate.

Hey ChrisT1701 - are you copying my style?...

I state my location as "The Capital Of India - Gravesend", you state yours as "The Darkest Recess of England - Margate";

My original sig was "That which cannot kill you can still hurt like hell" as well... :-?

Hi PJ,

Sorry mate, I didn't realise. If you've ever been to Margate recently, you'll know why I've put it as the Darkest Recess of England.

As for the sig, a mate of mine who changes his sig on his emails almost as often as David Beckham changes his hairstyle, put it on there. Sounded good so I nicked it...:)

...If you've ever been to Margate recently...

Never had that (dis)pleasure - what's it like, ie, what's so wrong with it? I heard back in 96 that it was a very rough area, like Kings Farm or Erith, but there are lots of places like that...
