I enjoy playing these machines on MFME much thanks to all the hard work that goes into them...
However recently i have been getting a problem

Only MFME 2 and 3 seem to work
And everytime i try and load up a Machine of MFME9 or above it starts initilizing ..but then says MFME as encountered a problem and as to shut down no matter what machine it is..

i have recently had problems with sound on my PC it basically does not work now..
could this be the problem..Thanks

The most common cause of MFME crashing is corrupt or out of date sound drivers .. relating to realtek AC 97 ..

Im not saying this IS the cause 100% but looking back through the forums .. 9 out of 10 times re-installing or updating them has worked.

You could try it and also try updating your Direct X to the latest version.

Take Todds advice. I encountered this problem when I first started using this site, and was told to update my sound drivers, and have had trouble free playing ever since.

If thats the case you could try disabling the onboard sound through the BIOS , it means you wouldnt have sound for ANYTHING though , but if you say its gubbed anyway its not going to make a difference.

You should be able to pick up a cheap PCI soundcard online , they range from about £7 right up to about £100 or more , but obv they are the better ones.
