Hello again

I apologize if this subject has come up before I did try the search function and the tutorials sections and google gave me conflicting results.

Has anybody successfully relamped their machines using LED technology before ?

I understand there can be a polarity issue as an LED will only work one way round as opposed to a traditional incandescent lamp

Your thoughts and advice are most appreciated and will be held in the highest regard

As ever many thanks in advance

Been tried several times by members on the Mecca, the results are not very good as the light doesnt diffuse in the lamp mask. In the buttons it just looks like a round circular glow in the center of them.

All led's will only work one way around due to the polarity (they do have to be put in the right way) Although all lampholders have a diode in them for the lamp multiplexing anyway. (lampholders can only be connected one way around)

So give it a go if you wish but the results are nothing special.

Heard of this but never seen it been done. With barcrest and few others out there only seen the reels with leds but never really looked into it tbh. Its a good question.

I liked the idea when it was first mentioned, but having seen the results it looks like they aren't suited to all machines. However, perhaps with testing different types of LEDs, a good result could be found?

Just bear in mind that if you want a 'plug in' replacement, it'll need to be 5mm or 10mm wedge lamp style (I believe they are called T5 and T10) - and which ones you need will depend on your machine, and what the lamps are for.

My machine is a barcrest mpu5 peepshow and I am 99% sure it uses 12v 5mm 100ma wedge for the play surface and 10mm wedge for the reels and buttons Thanks to your great advice earlier I managed to put her in to a lamp test and I need 7 5mm and one 10mm for centre light on reel three

Also thanks for the check it out warning although I still nearly bumped my head on the cab when it first went off

Yeah, that's standard on these, 5mm for everything apart from reels, buttons, and coin entry bezel I think. You get used to the alarms eventually, but don't worry, you aren't the first person to get surprised by one and bang their head :D

New astra machines are doing it now using LEDs, makes the machine look a lot clearer and brighter but you can clearly see the outlines out of the LED on the back of the reels.
