Hi all,
I was in an arcade in clacton and i saw this machine, i think its called crack the nut. Starts on 2p and you can gamble up to £2 i think it was. Can it be emulated? I have looked on the database but it doesnt seem to be on there.
Cheers

Sounds like Tuppenny Cracker to me, which, according to the FMEdb [www.fruitemu.co.uk/fmedb] is unemulatable, but uses MPU4. It was released by [according to the FMEdb] - Concept machines, and by the image name - Carfield machines, which may well have used encryption similar to the MPU4 BWB and Crystal machines. Maybe it'll be playable in MFME2 though?
Heres a piccy of Tuppenny Cracker anyway

Crack the Nut is the 2p version of Smash & Grab I think.
Still waiting to be emulated.

Ah, cheers for that!
I remembered that Tuppenny Cracker said 'Crack The Nut' in big letters on the bottom glass, and I assumed that the original poster assumed it was the name of the machine

Tuppenny Cracker and Crack the Nut are the same machine, three gorillas for JP.
The original is already emulated.
The original machine was a hack of Barcrest Smash and Grab (or Grab the Bank if you prefer to remember it that way) for 2p play.
Concept did an update for the modern era more recently, however this played totally differently to the original because nudge banks have since been outlawed, the gamble sounds were not different for each gamble and it had a higher JP.
Note the original Tuppenny Cracker had no manufacturers name on it.
If the machine being referred to has a gamble trail up to £1.00 only, then it is the original Tuppenny Cracker. If £2, its the Concept machine.
The Concept machine uses MPU4 afaik and therefore can be emulated.
Do not believe everything you read in the FMEdb!
If you are waiting for the Concept rebuild do yourself a favour and play the already emulated original, it is a much better game.

Not sure exactly when, someone else will hopefully clarify that.
The reason was they were seen as an inticement to play, e.g. you had five nudges banked and ran out of credits on Smash and Grab, it then used to play a sort of klaxon through the speakers for half a dozen times whilst flashing the nudges. Ditto other banks such as Melon Meters. I believe that they wanted a machine in attract mode to look the same for all players, with no visual indication that the machine had extra value in this part of its cycle. Of course you would be more likely to play Smash and Grab if it already had half a dozen nudges in the bank....
Now of course we all know that some manufacturers have replaced this with other enticements don't we, like always second holding a pair on the last credit, or nudging on the last credit
