Hi Guys,

I just recently found out that Fruit Machine ROMS and Emulators existed, so I got pretty excited at the prospect of playing a few of my old favourites, namely Shark Raving Mad, Barmy Army and Yabba Dabba Darts (all Barcrest I believe).

Having downloaded MacMAME, I am now struggling to get any ROMS to work.

Any Advice?

Thanks in advance.

I've just made the move to a MacBook Pro - your best bet is to install Parallels and stick a copy of Windows XP on it (boots in 5 seconds!!!). Parallels is great, you can play MFME in a normal OS X window.

I stick with XP as it seems to work best with the sounds on older machines (I used to use a virtual XP when I was on Windows 7 for the same reason).

It's £50 for the software (I got it from PC World, if you order it online before you go it's £50 instead of £65) so not cheap but IMHO well worth the money (I actually bought it cos I can't tear myself away from Microsoft Money...) - And let's face it, it's probably one session in the arcade!

I've got to agree with Winnie here - there is no native MFME app for OS X - but using Parallels, or VMWare Fusion, you can have Windows running along side you Mac computer within a couple of minutes, instaed of using Bootcamp and play MFME as it should be played... and I certainly agree about using Windows XP too - to get the proper sounds from the older games (eg, those fruit machines that use the 'synth' sound etc - only Windows XP can emulate this correctly with the emulators that are publicly available).

Well worth the pennies spent in my opinion - I don't regret buying Parallels - that's for sure. :)

How much did you pay for a parallels license, have you paid for all your software ?

Of course I have - I have never used those torrent things and I certainly don't intend to start now when there isn't really any point for me do you?

I paid £49.95 for mine with a discount email voucher - and all software I have is mine by personal right, whether through purchase or giveaway offers etc but all legally obtained...

...does that answer your question?

Yah that answers it, I think it's great people can afford to purchase software. I was just curious as I've never known anyone who has :cute: apart from I think Duplu or Ady purchased Adobe Photoshop for a few hundred pounds. :)

I've always saved up for something I've wanted, unless I have been treated to something by my parents, family etc.

It isn't that I can 'afford' to purchase software... it is just that if it is something I wanted - I've saved for it or treated myself at Christmas etc from gifts - I'm far from rich or extravagant and I have only ever brought software what I've needed or wanted
