I'm probably opening myself up to ridicule here but I've been meaning to do this for a while.

I thought it might be fun (and we might learn some stuff too) to post things that you've only learned recently that were in hindsight a bit obvious.  I'll start off with two:

I only discovered recently that when you pull up a shutter blind you have to pull the cord in a specific direction.  Pull to the right and down to keep them up and pull to the left and down to release them.  I had to just go and check that though on my own blinds ;)

I also only noticed recently that you can sometimes see the moon during the day and sometimes not at all at night (because it's on the other side of the world in their day).  In hindsight very obvious because of it's orbit around the earth but I'd never bothered to notice!

Only a year-or-so ago I found out 'Monkey-Nuts' grew underground on the tree's roots via a quiz show.

In my defence birds love them don't they...my Cockatiels wern't miners by far but they knew what they were!

I was reading on the internet about different types of bagpipes as I have started to have lessons. I have learned 1 obvious thing that there are many different types but the not so obvious thing is that you can get rare left-handed irish pipes. Also, the fingering and action is different to the Scottish ones. The action is a pumping action with the arm using bellows like an accordion and the chanter (melody pipe that looks like a recorder) can be taken off the knee to play higher notes.

When ever I finish washing dishes I flip the food catcher upside down so the trapped food can go down the sink not realizing eventually it'll become blocked. Even though I know that now I still do it.. It seems like really nasty design

When you fill a Thermos up with freezing cold water, it stays cold. When you fill it up with boiling water, it stays hot.

How does it know ???

I didn't realise this until a few days ago.......

A Goldbach number is an even positive integer that can be expressed as the sum of two primes. Therefore, another statement of Goldbach's conjecture is that all even integers greater than or equal to 4 are Goldbach numbers.

The expression of a given even number as a sum of two primes is called a Goldbach partition of that number. The following are examples of Goldbach partitions for some even numbers:

4 = 2 + 2 6 = 3 + 3 8 = 3 + 5 10 = 3 + 7 = 5 + 5

What a numbnut I am, fancy not knowing that!!!!!!!! :biglaugh:

P.S. Don't get me started on  Gaussian binomial coefficient.!!!!!!!!!

I've not had anything like that recently, but it springs to mind a builder who comes in my local every afternoon and usually puts between £150-£200 in Double DOND (we've had one or a variant of them since about October). He does this Monday to Friday every week bare in mind, and he still hasn't realised if you're playing both boards, the amount that's left on both boards is the amount you've got in your box  I could have told him on several occasions, but he's a bit of a dick and probably wouldn't appriciate my input anyway...

I was flooring the attic and needed to nail gun 2 boards together. The only place I could rest them was on my legs and it din't half hurt when the nail from the gun shot straight through and sank into my leg.

You can also see the moon when the suns not hitting it at all. You can just see a faint black disk its just before a new moon. You can also see shooting starsnduring the day if they are bright enough.

Why is it if you drop fag ash on something white it looks black, but if you drop the same ash on something black, it's white?

Same with seagulls, look up at them flying in the daytime and they look dark, but if you look at them at night they look light!

What's that all about?

Pg tips are called pg tips because they only use the top two leaves of the tea plant (the tips)..
The less obvious part of the name is the pg part which stands for "pre gest" (the whole name used to be "pre gest tee" circa pre WW2. Pre gest meaning it could be drunk before eating to aid digestion. It was shortened to PG by the tradesmen and shopkeepers and then changed to PG Tips.

This morning I put my old HDD into a 'new' PC and needed to transfer data.

I loaded PS and then the screen recorder (though as it was  from GATD I lost the code hence the unresgistered flash).

Only today did I know you could drag 'n drop images into PS..........the time I've wasted in the past opening>searching etc

attachment opens with IE

if I had not seen this, id never have known this. infact, after 40 years of eating dairy milk ive always wondered what that small jug on the wrapper is pouring.

I didn't know until recently, and checked on Wikipedia, that Coca Cola originally had as an ingredient, the class A drug cocaine!
