hey guys, this might be a bit of a stupid question, but is there any way of knowing if the coins are dropping on when playing any of the layouts?

I dont think there is but if your looking for a reason so you think the machine might be due read on.
Coins dropping on machines dont mean anything other than the hoppers are full.
We had a good discussion here about this a little while back, perhaps try searching the forum for dropping and fake dropping as the results were very interesting.

Yeah...I think that in the emulators, the hoppers are permanently set to full, and so in theory, all money would be going 'over the back'
I've just had a £160 win within £15 on a £25JP machine and it didn't run out [in the emulator]
So....to answer your question.....you know if coins are dropping because AFAIK they always are

not too sure about bfm and mfme but in the jpm emulator I was playing red alert and it went on a big streak which was over 125 probably about 140 so I opened the back door and checked the float which said 0. I then proceeded to plough around 30 back in and then checked again and it displayed 30. So technically you can check whats in the hopper at any given time provided you never take more than the hopper holds which is unlikely anyway unless you either bank it up until streak or catch a streak of over 125.

Ahhh...cheers for pointing that out
In theory though, the machine is full but the float in incorrectly set - by that I mean that the emulator always generates a virtual signal from the hopper opto, independant of float level
