It was a conversion by BWB iirc and was MPU3 based so yes indeed, it can in theory be emulated, athough the ROM's have not turned up as of yet.
There was one on eGay last year and it went for £50 iirc, hence it's not the most desirable machine, although that's quite a subjective matter. Horses for courses etc.
There's a photo of one in the gallery over at the mecca >>> http://www.fruitemu....?album=6&pos=10

Absolute quality!
Puffing Billy (laughing out loud at picture)
No, joking apart that's nostalgia for you. I can't rememember Puffing Billy from my youth, well maybe, I don't know for sure. Something is stirring in the back of my head. Must be that alien again.
That defines a sweeter more innocent age though doesn't it? An era when it was safe to walk down the street without being accosted by Burberry clad morons asking for quids and lighters and stuff.
Puffing Billy.
Seriously if there was a Magic 7 and a Puffing Billy side by side, I'd put my quid in Puffing billy every time. I'd love to see a row of Puffing Billys replacing all the Electrocoins and Astras in my local arcade. Just to see the look on the faces of all the hardcore gamblers.
Great stuff mate though, thanks for that amusing trip down memory lane. I'll have to have a proper snoop around this site sometime, rather than just post on the most recent topics. There are obviously some fantastic resources, ROMS/LAYOUTS aside.

It is a shame when crap like Big Cheese goes for 4x the value of what appears to be a perfectly good classic machine

I think it was a conversion kit for BWB's WIN-A-GAIN, I remember it coming in 2p, 5p & 10p play versions

lol nudgeman!
yes unfortunatly those days are gone.the days that when you got "unlimited nudges" you had no autonudge, and sweat it out to carefully bring in the 3 melons(no 7`s then!),while trying to avoid the dreaded "27 ways to win" symbols.you just knew that one lapse in concentration would result in a dreaded 10p win rather than the JP!
damn it,that still hurts! :-?

Hmm not sure about that tbh. Win-A-Gain was a dedicated BWB conversion for Hyper/Snappy Viper and Options/Chances Unlimited. The Puffing Billy shown in the picture is an Adders & Ladders conversion.
But jesus christ what a name for a fruit "Puffing Billy" ROFL.
Talk about attracting the 4-5 year old kiddies to gamble away back then in the 80's.

Well, look at some of the recent movie/TV licenses : Hulk, Austin Powers, e.t.c.
Most of these are £5 in kebab shops aimed squarely at the 12>16 year old 'pocket/dinner money' market

Yeah true, but again that only shows the massive shift in trends over 20 years and some. The Hulk and Austin Powers are massive multi-million dollar franchises, appealing to today's "must have"/"sexually blasé" young consumers, whilst 'Puffing Billy' (lol!) is a generic name, presumably in the theme of 'Thomas The Tank Engine'.
If it was the designers of 2005, they could have called it 'The A-Team' or 'The Magic Roundabout' buying up the appropriate licence, but instead you have this beautifully crap (I mean that in the nicest possible way - as in crap, but crap smelling of roses.) name - <<ahem>>
"Puffing Billy".
I tell you, you'll probably think I'm mad, but that has been making me chuckle through the whole of today. Its been really bugging other people, them glowering at me as I start smirking and chortling to myself.
To be fair, it is really more of a 1940s/50s thing though isn't it? Wonderfully naíve and innocent. Fish and chip suppers. Dad's Army. Ballroom dancing. Double 00 gauge steam locomotive.
Like the original poster says, it was the nuts of the dog in its day and didn't look out of place, so perhaps there was more to the 80s than excessive eye liner and synthesised pop music.
Cops 'n Robbers, yeah good name for a fruitie. Revolution...err ok fine. Psycho Cash Beast......a little wacky, quite fun infact, but again....fine.
Spiker the Biker. They've even made a little character to accompany Mr. Barcrest. Great. Fine. Fruit Explosion, Andy Capp, Hot Rocks, Bar-X, Card Shark, Jackpot Jokers, HellRaiser. Puffing Billy. <<CHOKE!?!>> Did someone say Puffing Billy? Surely that has nothing to do with gambling...it's a kid's TV programme isn't it?
Let's raise our glasses and make a toast to 'Puffing Billy'...
<<chink>>
"We all love Puffing Billy"!!!!!!!!!!
Choo! Choo! Chuffachuffachuffachuffa......
