Peter Harvey, boss of slot machine company Quicksilver, discovers that it might not just be the company's dwindling profits he has to worry about, but also his underappreciated staff.

Don't know if anyone is interested but this is normally a good program.

Brian

Me too

Ironic we had a forum just recently on Quicksilver arcades and there demise.!

Arcades have got to give something to gain the publics attention. You don't put in,you don't make cash, simple as.

Even the big guns here on the west coast are realising this now. Coral Island in Blackpool has a £10 for £10 promotion(You play through £20 and whatever you win you keep!)- Mon-Fri,as well as a £500 free slot tourney over the weeknd. And there custom has increased by as much as 50% midweek!,through the promotions they have in place.

Many chains I feel do not go into administration just because of the recession we are in,many arcades fail because they do not want to put money into the business.

I too Ady rare visit an arcade now,but if I passed one that had a promo similar to the one above,I would have a gamble as at least the arcade is giving me a chance to win something, without me just wasting my money.

I look forward to the Under cover boss episode on Tuesday I think it is aired.

Jay

Looking forward to this.

Incidentally I went to a Quicksilver today with a few people. It was advertised as 24 hour but we got ejected sharpish as they said they were closing at 4.

This happened in the one in Hull numerous times. They'd have the poster in the window advertising 10pm closing but by 6 it was closed.

Good spot - cheers :). Wonder if it'll get into the more general area of malaise in the industry.

This will be interesting. I love these programs, where 'Big Boss Man' (CEO) is face with the 'Real World'. They are totally out of their comfort zones.

I couldnt agree more Ady

And I could be wrong but I think the smoker was her replacement to be! Who would have been met with little more than a p45-what an obnoxious woman, with a chip shop frying on both shoulders :err:

They way they treated the guy as a newbie employee would have put me off the job period.

Quicksilver chains have been on the slide for years now,so why suddenly does the CEO suddenly jump into gear after stating at the end of the program that things have been on a rocky road this past 5year!!!

I do not see a bright future for any arcade chain.

I just watched it.

I can't help but think that they are making a profit at the expense of the misery of the population that can ill afford it.

Too many companies (along with bookies and their FOBTs...and not to mention online sites and smartphone apps) are vying for less and less money in these times of austerity (hark at me sounding like Gordon Brown) - so they've really got to offer an excellent experience...which they obviously don't!

Some decent fruities would be a good start - I didn't see anything that would tempt me to go in.

Any of them have Rio Grandes, Grand Slams or 3+2 reel Temptation machines?

I'd be in like a shot!

(and how that guy turned from Steve Davis into Groucho Marx was genius)

The Maidstone branch was the exact same branch where we got booted out from at 4pm on Sunday by the same bird as in the show!

Her attitude has hardly changed much. TBH I doubt they'll fix anything. Even if they did, who's really interested in these gambling dens compared to the bookies etc? All a TV stunt to me, and I don't really think it's going to convince anyone to think differently.

We can all hark on about the 'good old days' like some do about here lol. But at the end of the day that programme was all about making profit for quicksilver isn't that what all companies are supposed to do! They don't care about customer relations and all that we'd all like the old skool type of machine where £50 would last all day I'm the same, but now a days its 'get em in, get em out' next please!. So the quicker the punter loses the money the quicker the next punter does the same and so on. Gambling isn't about enjoyment anymore after all ain't gambling a quick adrenaline rush when the gamble takes place.
Back to the subject in hand profit the jackpot levels will keep rising so as the companies try to make more money, if one person spends a grand on one machine it equals the same as 10 spending a 100pounds, and this 24hr opening is just a gimmick I felt sorry for the under qualified staff who had to deal with sometime violent piss heads in order to make q s another quick buck whilst they're probably on min wage, where was the bouncers on the door like you would on a proper casino you see all them foreigners spending their kebab chinky shop profits at 4am lol.
But the only way a company like that can win customers back is to ask them what they want but I don't think that's gonna happen whilst the government and the machine manufactures keep putting the pressure on the arcade owners.
So Bellfruit for starters get rid of that bearded twat at once no one likes him but have no choice but to play with him.

Hopefully got rid of the double post my mobile phone plays tricks on me and now only bore you all once, I do ramble on sometimes lol.
