I think fruit emu should have one-off fee of a fixed amount which can be paid for infinite membership for life. What does everyone think the amount for the fee should be if it was implemented?  It will increase funding for the site in short space of time.

Hi Corel, I really have no idea as I am not really into finance. I have just started my new induction program back at college today, unfortunately due to amounts of people not getting their funding, we only have 75 students, most of them "returner learners" as quoted by Julie the BTEC business teacher. I am, however, starting to learn about money management in a business in a 1-to-1 hour lesson with the other teacher, Steve Ramsdail. The teachers seam like good and funny characters. they were telling us about this gun-shaped scanner that some of the big supermarkets have where you can scan the items, put in your debit/credit card and pay without queueing for a til :) is this reality or just their insanity? lol

Just recently Duplu has had to move from a dedicated server to a shared one...

I'm not speaking for him but on a personal note here...

All too often we see "yeah i'll support" blah blah in threads then silence..........we even see leechers in the creating side that have NEVER added to the 'pot' yet screw resources...the excuse is "I don't have the bandwidth"...

A) How the hell do you then leech?

B) Don't moan when the site is slow!

C)  How the heck do you think the site creator managed?

Nice idea coral, but I doubt much will work....Just wish those that enjoy FME would actually support it.

I looked at the DADs thread and the posters and those that had ever (I admit I have only twice) added funds........but jeeze it makes me laugh!

It may make a boost in funds at first, but long term the site will be at a loss I thinks.

Should move the whole lot to my server.  It's been free for the last 10 days lol

God knows why it hasn't been pulled yet, but I'm not complaining.

I agree, to start with it would be great, but long term the site would lose out. Prices for server hosting will increase over the years and that's when it will be most needed.

I enjoy FME, that's why I support it.

I disagree with a compulsory fee. It wiill kill the site in the long term.

VIP section caused some issues when It was first introduced too as I recall. Duplu quit at one stage, but that was more cash for layouts on the VIP section. Even so, feelings ran VERY high.

Need to study history too, me thinks.

If we look at it properly 85% of fruit emu members just come here to leech layouts then f*** off again until the next new ;layout is released. You know the people who care about it,they help with layouts gather resources, build layouts and or donate to the up keep of the site. Were already losing one top site,I'd hate to see fruit emu go.

Similar idea was tabled at the Mecca and same conclusion came to..... would just create a rather elitist feel to the forums and loose members in the long run, resulting in the eventual death of the forums.

Well theres Children In Need. Theres even been Sport Aid. And we all know about Comic Relief. There was once even a Compost-Aid a few years ago :D

Could we not send the moderators to some of the poorest amusement arcades in errm, Africa? And demand funds from the public 'Geldof style' to help save and enhance the lives of starving cash attendants?

Just £1 can buy a small helpless child a bag of 2p's for the pushers...

£5 can keep a whole African family entertained on a Party Time Arena for at least a minute.

 Just a thought...

That would be similar to what reelsoffun has just started with its "membership for life" is that what you mean?

Not sure it would work here but I agree we need to come up with a way to fund this site for the long term, just not sure how without upsetting people, its a tricky balance really.

If it's just bandwidth that causes the site to be expensive to run, I just had a thought. Would it make sense to store / copy the uploaded file data into an online sharing service that can offer read only access. Then, when someone wants a file they can just install the client and accept the share invite. New files would then appear automatically (or with approval at the client end) but the bandwidth issue would be with the cloud provider. As these providers have huge bandwidth available I doubt they'd notice.

Of course, there are issues of authorities snooping etc but I doubt they really care about binary files as oppose to music / mp3 copyright.

Anyway, just an idea that came to mind.

I'd have to disagree too. You would end up making a lot of cash up front, but unless you get recruiting a lot of new people in the upcoming years would be at a loss. Maybe if you charged a yearly fee instead? That would allow a yearly income for the site rather than a one time deal. Then you could always keep donations up too.

very good idea multiupload would be a good place to store downloads , there are others where you need a password to download making it less public
