So you are taking the Shoutbox away from those who have not done anything wrong? You got to think of people who have very short arm movements or problems with their arm/hand movement and use shoutbox to interact.

 

Why not ban them from seeing the Shoutbox but the rest of the site? would save a lot of hassle.

The Chat feature that Fruit Emu has already had does all the functions, and a few more that the ShoutBox did - it will in face be easier to use.

Yep it's a possible solution, especially now DAD's FME is closing.

It's all IRC based and works indepentaly from any web forum, so if the main forum ever went down with a fault, the chat would still work.

Link here with the room info, server, connection etc, along with a fully working java client.

I agree dump the SB.
It has been a breeding ground for bullying, harassment, intimidation and sycophancy in the past year.
Pull the plug.
The only problem I can see is that the people who constantly moan about it's misuse, will now have to find something else to moan about.

We know - and that is one of the reasons why we are doing it...

...that is always easy to do in FME land so there certainly won't be any problem there in that respect

Can chat not be altered so that the text people are talking about stays there, instead of a blank room when you enter.

Hi Daryl, will there still be the thread on "Any topic chat?" It is the only way I think JAWS will work with me anyway and as I stated before it doesn't work well with the shoutbox. It is useful when I put up my other video attempts on youtube (hopefully more in October) so watch out! I feel the any topic chat facility should still be there for those who like to cross-thread from FME into other topics completely unrelated to it.

That section will never be removed lad because that is the mainstay of this forum and is open for all members to 'post' in.

Chat, and the former ShoutBox were totally different and are added functions for this site.

You will ALWAYS be able to post there lad... I guarantee it whilst we are still here

this chatroom thingy ain,t going to work as how do you know if the person you want to chat to is actually in the chat room waiting or wanting to talk sometimes you don,t always want a conversation just a quick hello etc, i say bring back shoutbox far easier to use

You'll adjust - and as 'guest' appears it is because it is a Chat Room...

 

...ShoutBox will NOT be coming back as long as I've got an input here - perhaps it should've been respected a little more than it was.

 

So you either want to hope I go ga-ga soon, or ask DAD to keep his site on for the ShoutBox - because it was becoming a joke to read this past year or so and an embarrassment to this site and FME in general. It simply couldn't be what it was supposed to have been there for, so ultimately it became 'unfit for purpose' as the politicians would like to say.

I think the chat box was a bit complacent but now its gone it all seems a bit bare up top.

 

I read that the arguments and profanity etc. made it a task for the mods - but isn't it part of the job?

why not just punish the individual offenders for abusing the shoutbox rules? I see the same members using grubby and dirty foul language, not only in the shoutbox but also in the forums. Im not naming these members but they are indeed regular. And I think these people should be punished or warned regardless of their status here.

 

Just because they've made a couple of contributions here and done a few layouts shouldn't give them a free ticket to using obscene vocal.
