Ideally fme should have an open source project that willing coders can work on... I guess that is mame.

Most ot the stuff is fully working in mame, as Haze has pointed it out. It's up to anybody else to write some layout tools for mame, and nobody has, end of.
I can post countless vids DOND etc. working, but with tools, it's pointless.
Ask Wizzy why he's not released MFME4, we were never told. He still posts daily on the Mecca, closed his Wizard account saying he was quitting one day, then started pointing under the name of "Jeeves" the next.
He could post a memorial edition for Thunderstorm, will he no.
He could give Daryl a copy to help his through his tough times, will he no.
He could just talk in open discussion about things and try and sort them out, will. he no.
He could say, you know what, here you go, here's a new version now leave me alone, will he,no
That is the type of man we're talking about. Where his own fellow coders and members of the inner circle one by one fell out with him.

We done all the Wizard finger pointing already. Wizard has said no mfme. We need to look forward. Mame?.... and the 2 coders that are working on private emulation projects. I've said it before but there are very few willing/interested coders on this scene and we are extremely lucky to have them.

Isn't this what El-C is working on for mame?

Does anyone remember who did the Dr Who Layout for mame.
Surely we could see how that was done and try and replicate it or a pinmame type system to make layouts or even pinmame itself.
I must admit that the more mame has grown the harder i have found to get it to work. However maybe a version that just accepts fruit machine roms could be made together with the exact rom names of the files.I know we would have to "find" the roms ourselves but this would make it easier.
If its out there we should give it a try.

This is very disheartening news...
...I have never used MAME before, as it all seems way over my head, even when I could've managed it, but because the future of MFME depended on it, the last vestige of any decent emulation is lost forever (or until another IC 'leak' )
Haze seems very upset and angry - and rightly so!

That is bad news, not only for MAME, but for the whole emulation scene.
People who contribute 'Open Source code' for the good of the whole project, are pushed to one side because someone sees the £££'s it could make.
I use MAME a lot, mainly for old games, i.e. Bomb Jack, Gorf and Phoenix and I find it very sad that a brilliant program should die, because of other peoples greed.
A shame, MAME deserves better than this.

Haze has quit the MAME devs, game over.

A shame because MAME is a great project. I originally considered approaching them about incorporating Epoch into MAME but the (IMO crazy) licence restrictions (plus a few other concerns) forced me to go solo and write the emulator from scratch.
I am planning to add other techs after Epoch so stay tuned!

Looks like a half quit to me, certainly far from a I'm 100% finished with Mame and will never work on it again stance.
MAME will certainly not die either, it is far to big a project, with tons of people involved, for that to happen.
As for FME in MAME, well I'd still much rather see emulators such as MFME and BFmulator than emulating fruit machines, than something as large as MAME.
Daryl, Mame is a piece of piss to set up and use 1/ Download emulator, 2/ Install it, 3/ Download a rom, 4/ Leave rom zipped up and put it in the roms folder in the installation directory 5/ Open mame and double click on game from list 6/ Play game.

Well that is very encouraging news. Please add Barcrest Video, actually more importantly the MPU4 BWB Video machines.
Many thanks

Gutted. Looks like we will now sit back and watch MAME rip itself to bits. Shame as someone has just picked up the layout tools and is giving it a go with Electrocoin Sphinx.

Is there any info regarding the layout process?

I'm even more glad that I went to a Mac computer now - Windows for just a fruit machine emulator was a little obsessive back in the day!
LOL, my current laptop, purchased in Aug 2011, has a 1920*1080 screen res. I held off buying until I could find a 15" full hd screen laptop, because I didn't want to miss out on playing all FME layouts.
My choice of home PC screen back in the mid to late 2000's and my previous laptop screen were dictated by FME, as at the time, it was what I spent 99% of my time doing on my PC, when I wasn't surfing the net.
Home screen res will always be at least 1920*1080 now, as even basic cheapo screens can manage that. But not sure, I'll bother with a 1920*1080 laptop screen next time, unless the cost is negligible.
